OverviewJoin to apply for the Director of Quality Assurance role at ConXtech.ConXtech is seeking an experienced Quality Assurance professional that will develop, implement, and periodically evaluate a program to ensure the organization’s production operations, from raw materials to finished products, meet the quality, integrity, and efficiency standards set by the organization. The Director of Quality Assurance (QA) will be responsible for the strategic oversight and management of quality assurance processes for all structural steel fabrication and erection activities. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in quality management within the structural steel industry, with a focus on continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and team leadership. You will ensure the quality of our steel products from design through fabrication and erection, safeguarding the company’s commitment to delivering premium products to our clients. Responsibilities Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive quality assurance programs that align with industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements for structural steel fabrication and erection. Ensure that all materials, welds, fabrication processes, and erection procedures are rigorously inspected and tested to meet or exceed required standards and specifications. Drive initiatives for continuous improvement in quality assurance processes, identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies, defect reduction, and innovation within the QA department. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure the quality of design, fabrication, and erection processes, resolving any discrepancies or issues related to quality. Ensure QA activities comply with relevant building codes, standards (AWS, AISC, ASTM), and regulations. Oversee documentation of quality control records, inspections, and certifications for audits and reviews. Manage the qualification and monitoring of suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring that all purchased materials and subcontracted services meet or exceed required quality standards. Oversee QA processes to ensure safety protocols are embedded in every phase of the project, mitigating risk and enhancing overall safety compliance. Act as the primary contact for clients regarding quality assurance issues, ensuring transparency and clear communication about quality standards, inspections, and certifications throughout the project lifecycle. Evaluate production operations from a strategic level to ensure products meet quality, integrity, functionality, and other specifications and requirements. Collaborate with management and senior staff across production departments to draft acceptable quality standards and develop/implement quality standard testing and evaluation processes. Assess test results and approve recommended changes; review quality control documentation such as checklists, logs, and reports for effectiveness, accuracy, and relevance. Manage and mentor a team of quality assurance professionals, fostering a culture of quality and ensuring QA protocols are executed across all departments. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent industry experience). Minimum 10 years of experience in quality assurance management within the structural steel fabrication and erection industry. Extensive knowledge of welding, fabrication processes, and structural steel erection techniques. Deep understanding of industry codes and standards, including AWS, AISC, ASTM, and relevant local and international building codes. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical abilities focused on continuous improvement. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior leadership, clients, engineers, and project teams. Proficiency in quality management software and tools, such as QA/QC reporting systems and inspection management tools. Experience with ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems is preferred. Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct and oversee QC staff and handle employee-related matters as needed in accordance with company policy. Preferred Qualifications Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or similar certification. Experience in managing large-scale structural steel projects from design through fabrication to erection. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies. Previous experience in a senior QA management role. Serve as primary client contact for QA matters, communicating quality standards and inspections throughout the project lifecycle. Strategically evaluate production operations to ensure product quality and compliance with specifications. Collaborate with management to draft acceptable quality standards and implement testing/evaluation processes. Review test results and approve changes; review QA documentation for accuracy and relevance. Mentor QA professionals and promote a culture of quality across departments. Perform other related duties as assigned. Where you’ll be working You’ll be working in a hybrid role with the majority of the time in our Houston Center of Talent, with the option of working 1 day per week from home.
