OverviewCommunications Director, Digital - 12-Month Fixed Term Contract. Greenpeace USA (GPUSA) seeks an experienced Communications Director, Digital who is passionate about digital organizing, advancing progressive change, has a track record of success in digital platform management, and a deep understanding of current digital & social media trends and technologies. The role is based in a Greenpeace USA-approved location (CA, CT, DC, MD, NY, NJ, VA) and reports to the Senior Director of Communications.Greenpeace USA (GPUSA) is an independent campaigning organization. Greenpeace does not accept funds from corporations or government entities and operates globally with a network in over fifty countries.Role ResponsibilitiesStrategic LeadershipOversee Greenpeace USA's digital mobilization and social media strategy, shaping and executing a comprehensive, data-driven, audience-centric digital communications strategy.Plan, create, and identify opportunities for digital campaigns (long-term and rapid-response) to support advocacy, fundraising, and community-building goals; lead the Digital team to capitalize on opportunities.Oversee management of Greenpeace US’s website and a small constellation of microsites with occasional content updates.Oversee email list health and digital infrastructure (website, digital platforms and tools).Use data-driven insights to assess campaign performance and ROI; drive continuous improvement by analyzing metrics and iterating on strategy.Create compelling content tailored for multiple digital platforms, ensuring consistent tone, messaging, and branding.Oversee daily management of social media channels, ensuring timely responses, community engagement, and consistent storytelling.Implement proactive engagement and responsive communication strategies; anticipate and adapt to emerging trends in social media and digital marketing.Liaise with the Development (fundraising) team to create integrated user journeys and segmentation strategies with a “One Greenpeace”Campaigns mindset.Manage content calendars and oversee creation and distribution of high-quality content across digital channels.Develop and implement rapid response strategies to protect Greenpeace USA’s reputation during social media munication and CollaborationLead the Digital team’s strategy on supporter journeys, automation, and cross-departmental priorities (e.g., fundraising, volunteer recruitment).Lead regular reporting and analysis of digital performance to leadership and organizational teams.Collaborate with Digital team members and leadership to develop departmental priorities, staffing, and budgets, and track progress.Coordinate with the Digital Platforms Lead and the Communications Director, Brand to manage and evolve the Greenpeace US website, balancing needs across goals and departments.Collaborate with leaders of other departments and Greenpeace offices worldwide to develop ambitious, creative, supporter-centric digital campaigns.Advise Greenpeace leadership on digital communication strategies and emerging technologies to advance priorities.Team ManagementManage a team of digital and content experts responsible for multi-channel engagement across campaigns.Coordinate with other managers to allocate staff resources, manage personnel, and foster a fit-for-purpose team.Maintain a culture of learning, experimentation, and iteration across all channels; seek out new practices and learnings.Knowledge and ExperienceMinimum 10 years leading digital campaigns, communications, and/or fundraising.Minimum 5 years of management experience supervising professionals and directing large, national or international projects.Strong background in content strategy, digital organizing, social media, and project management; experience in online fundraising, digital advertising, website development, and multimedia design.Proven team management, budgeting, analytical, and organizational skills.Experience leading projects in a large, complex organization; track record of innovative projects and testing/learning.Expertise in a range of digital tools and tactics, and understanding of their use in different contexts (fundraising, event attendance, advocacy, rapid response, paid vs organic growth).Experience with digital and relational organizing tools, social media management systems, and/or CRM platforms (e.g., Hootsuite, Frame.io, Canva, Asana, Hustle, Bonterra EveryAction, OptinMonster, or similar).Adept at leading diverse, remote teams; able to collaborate across teams, set and review goals, assess risks, and analyze data.Strong interpersonal skills with cross-cultural experience; self-motivated, organized, and collaborative; able to drive projects forward in a dynamic environment.Confident, agile decision-maker capable of delivering high-quality results under tight timelines.Cultural competence, empathy, and the ability to engage with people across cultures.Advanced analytical skills to track and measure the effectiveness of digital efforts.Excellent writing and copy-editing skills; creative thinking and problem solving; commitment to integrity and ethical behavior.Resilient with ability to bounce back from setbacks and maintain motivation.OtherWillingness and ability to work outside normal business hours, across time zones, and/or on weekends as required.Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally for in-person activities, meetings, and trainings as needed (roughly 1-5 days per quarter).Compensation and BenefitsGreenpeace offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
