CLIENT PARTNER PROFILE & VALUE PROPOSITION: Leapros has been engaged by a publicly trading company in the transportation industry to fill a Controls Engineer position at their Orange County office. Position Position title: Controls Engineer Position summary: The Controls Engineer is responsible for programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI’s) used for the control and automation of custom systems built for Compressed and Liquefied Natural Gas fueling stations. Responsibilities / Duties Using control descriptions, I/O lists, electrical schematics, and drawings, create PLC/HMI code for control of various electro-mechanical systems. Assist field commissioning and service technicians with start-up and troubleshooting of applied programming. Work with engineering team to develop electrical, instrumentation and controls products and systems to satisfy unique customer specifications, contracts, and new business development. Create/review/modify electrical schematics, drawings, and I/O lists for various electro-mechanical systems to ensure compliance with engineering standards and customer specifications. Support design and manufacturing of machine control systems. Submit timely status reports to management on progress of assigned projects. Develop UL and other related technical documentation for review and submittal to customers. Participate in equipment tests (Factory Acceptance Tests, FAT), assembly, installation, and set-up activities to ensure components and systems conform to engineering design standards and customer specifications. Program troubleshooting, problem identification and resolution for PLC code. Estimate engineering time, material costs and resources required for proposed projects. Provide technical guidance to Purchasing on electrical components, equipment, software, and services. Provide field support for equipment installation, startup, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance. Design and develop PLC program standards for the company and its subsidiaries. Flexibility for domestic travel up to 20% (overnight travel may be required to support installation, start-up activities or attend client meetings). Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Automation Engineering or related field, 6-9 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 4+ years of PLC and HMI design and programming for industrial equipment for machine control, and development of electrical and software systems. Siemens, Allen Bradley and Horner PLC experience a plus. GE Proficy Ifix, Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View and Ignition SCADA software experience also a plus. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD software. Certified Siemens, Horner and/or Allen Bradley PLC programmer preferred. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Pay Transparency A reasonable estimate of the available pay scale for this position is: $85,000-$100,000 per year. The actual compensation offered may vary depending on qualifications and other factors essential to the performance of duties and is determined by the hiring authority.
