OverviewPosition: Director of Development, Youth Guidance Washington DC. Reporting to the Director of New Site Development with a dotted-line to the Executive Director, the Director will lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy to sustain and scale Youth Guidance DC programs. The role will build donor relationships and expand government contracts and philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. The Director will also strengthen local Advisory Councils and partnerships to advance the organization’s work in the Greater Washington area.Salary: $97,000 – $105,000ResponsibilitiesDevelop, oversee, and direct the implementation of the annual development plan and fundraising goals to achieve sustainability and growth; monitor fundraising results and report progress to the Director of New Site Development and Executive Director on a monthly basis.Partner with the Executive Director to engage key champions, including Advisory Council members, to leverage networks for connections that grow resources, visibility, and strategic partnerships.Manage the Washington DC Advisory Council by supporting the Executive Director and Advisory Council Chair in organizing quarterly meetings, developing agendas, engaging members, and optimizing fundraising activities.Manage a portfolio of foundation, corporate, and individual prospects and donors, advancing each relationship through solicitation; maintain and strengthen relationships with current and past donors.Oversee local government relations and advocacy strategy to mobilize public sector leaders as champions of Youth Guidance DC through public hearings, site visits, and engagements that unlock funding and partnership opportunities.Oversee the DC grants calendar and processes to ensure timely proposal development, budgeting, prospecting, grant submission, engagement, and reporting.Conduct ongoing prospect research to identify viable local funding opportunities.Lead donor engagement and cultivation activities and support strategic engagement with funders.Maintain knowledge of the Greater Washington area’s local operating and philanthropic context, education landscape, political trends, and youth development field.Develop partnerships with the Senior Leadership Team and staff to design and fulfill annual fundraising strategy and goals.Partner with Marketing & Communications on the annual communications plan.Maximize use of Salesforce (CRM) with a focus on moves management and annual giving processes.Participate in team meetings, agency training, and staff development; perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsBachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.Minimum of 5 years of professional fundraising experience with a track record of achievement in complex, mission-driven organizations; experience in youth development, human services, and/or K-12 education preferred.Experience engaging and partnering with Greater Washington area funders and community-based organizations preferred.Experience in collaborative development environments, leading initiatives from concept through execution; solid understanding of fundraising programs (individual, foundation, corporate, and special events).Government relations experience, preferably with local government and federal agencies.Experience with volunteers to support fundraising; experience leveraging a fundraising CRM to drive moves management.Superior writing skills for grants, reports, briefs, fact sheets, and presentations.Proven ability to work effectively across teams in a hybrid office environment.Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office); Raisers Edge experience preferred.Skills / CompetenciesExcellent written and verbal communication; professional image in person and on the phone.Highly organized, strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple tasks, pressure, and dependent and team-oriented; committed to cultural sensitivity and continuous improvement of service quality in line with the organization’s mission.Demonstrates Youth Guidance core competencies: communication, equity mindset, growth mindset, supervisory skills, mission-driven.Demonstrates Youth Guidance leadership competencies: external relationship building, leads with vision, develops and motivates others, data-driven decision making, strategic thinking and resource management, team building.Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and foster effective teams.Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentThis is a hybrid position requiring regular local travel and reliable transportation to internal and external meetings, community events, and partner engagements.Work may involve multiple formats (in person, virtual, writing); reasonable accommodations available to perform essential functions.Occasional local and national travel; other duties as assigned.BenefitsYouth Guidance offers a competitive benefits package for eligible full-time employees including medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, life insurance, FSA, 401(k), wellness program, and more.
