Join to apply for the HR Generalist role at African American Planning Commission, Inc.Position Summary: Apply human resources expertise to provide a wide range of HR support and advice to staff. The successful candidate will execute the daily functions of the HR department, including recruiting, compensation, employee relations, performance management, leave of absences, benefits, enforcing company policies and HR best practices, while facilitating a positive relationship between personnel and leadership staff. This position requires solid organizational and analytical skills, with a focus on attention to detail and a strong background in compliance and labor laws.AS HR Generalist You Will Be Responsible ForRecruits, interviews, and facilitates hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand required skills and competencies.Conducts or ensures background checks and employee eligibility verifications.Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.Performs routine HR tasks including compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, productivity, recognition, morale, occupational health and safety, and training and development.Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors; refers complex matters to appropriate staff.Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, investigations, and terminations.Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; reviews policies to ensure ongoing compliance.Keeps knowledge current on HR trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in HR, talent management, and employment law.Acts as a backup to existing HR Generalists.Performs other duties as assigned.Required Skills/AbilitiesExcellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; strong time management with proven ability to meet deadlines.Analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to maintain confidentiality.Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with HRIS and talent management systems (Paycom).Education And ExperienceHigh School diploma with 8+ years’ experience in HR.Associates degree with 3+ years’ experience in HR, Business Administration, or related field.Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field with 1-2 years’ experience.Fluency in both verbal and written Spanish a plus.Physical RequirementsProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 5 pounds at times.Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.Strong understanding of the NYC homeless shelter system (including working knowledge).Compensation And BenefitsThe base annual salary range being offered for this role is $66,100.00.
