Reporting to the Vice President, Information Technology, this position is responsible for the management and availability of the Company’s production Microsoft SQL Server clusters and will oversee a team of DBAs responsible for supporting them. Client is seeking a manager who is not only expert on the technology and high performance database design, but also equally adept at managing high achieving teams, developing database standards and hands-on troubleshooting of SQL Server performance issues.Responsibilities:Lead the development of standards, processes and procedures (creating KBs, runbooks, topology) and ensuring consistency in operationsDevelop operations to ensure optimal performance, availability and scalability of all critical database environments at all timesLead the troubleshooting of any database performance or stability issuesIdentify sub-optimal database architecture, design, or operational practices and lead the execution of projects to address themCreate monitoring standards and practices to ensure complete visibility of all database operations and supporting infrastructureQualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experienceMinimum seven years’ experience supporting MSSQL server in a high availability, high transaction OLTP environment with a minimum of 5 years managing DBAs in similar environments.Excellent root cause and impact assessment skillsAdept analytical skills with the ability to conduct methodical and well-reasoned analysis of performance issuesSQL Server database engine on contemporary versions of SQL ServerDemonstrable knowledge of how it operates along with strengths and weaknesses of the design/architecture and troubleshooting core database engine and configuration issuesAlwaysOn architecture, clustering, mirroring, and transactional replicationIndexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, partitioning. How statistics work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively.SQL Server monitoring/performance tools (Profiler, DTA, SSMS, SAC, SSCM, PerfMon, DMVs, system sprocs)SQL Development – ability to write, review and troubleshoot SQL Code and design (stored procs, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints )Windows server, security delegation, SPNs, storage and storage sub-systemsExperience migrating SQL Server to a big data solution is a plusAdditional InformationIn case you are interested and meet the requirements, please send your resume with contact information, hourly rate and best time to reach you.
