OverviewThis full-time, on-site role will support the San Diego, California location. The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer II/III will support the EHS Staff in maintaining policies and procedures required to adhere to CAES EHS Management and Technical Standards. The EHS Engineer will support the organization in meeting and maintaining CAES’s “No Harm” standard and ISO 14001 certification. The EHS Engineer will support the site’s safety programs including the ergonomics program, as well as evaluations, inspections, training and recordkeeping necessary to promote the safest work environment. The EHS Engineer will, on occasion, assist the department in matters relating to the site’s environmental responsibilities and have a good understanding of reporting metrics and drive continuous improvement by engaging the site’s other business stakeholders. Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance & Permitting Support environmental permitting and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including air quality, wastewater, hazardous waste, and stormwater. Prepare and submit permit applications, reports, and responses to regulatory agencies, including APCD, DEHQ, DTSC, RWQCB, Cal/OSHA, City of San Diego Water & Fire Departments, County of San Diego Radiological Health. HSE Program Management Ensure EHS policies and procedures reflect current regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Develop and implement corrective actions and training programs to address compliance gaps. Conduct regular workplace assessments and implement improvements to enhance HSE program maturity. Identify and assess environmental and ergonomic risk factors, and recommend mitigation strategies. Support or lead emergency response planning and drills; maintain knowledge of emergency response fundamentals. Training, Coaching & Communication Provide day-to-day HSE guidance to site personnel as part of a cross-functional team. Coach employees and supervisors on their roles in maintaining HSE compliance. Develop, update, and deliver safety and environmental training programs. Promote safety culture through effective communication, including team meetings, newsletters, and the intranet. Participate in Safety Committee meetings, team inspections, and Leadership Walks. Monitoring & Reporting Complete required EHS tasks and inspections to ensure compliance with environmental permits and internal policies. Track, analyze, and report EHS performance metrics, including waste and chemical management, incident tracking, and audit findings. Provide backup support for chemical technician tasks, as needed. Other Duties Support continuous improvement initiatives within the EHS function. Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by the EHS Manager. Qualifications Minimum: High School diploma (or equivalent) Two (2) years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance US export laws: must be a “US Person” or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health/Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Biology, Environmental Engineering, or Chemistry Data analysis, trending, root cause problem solving, and using measurements to drive process improvement Ergonomic principles understanding; experience in industrial, manufacturing, and office settings Process improvement mindset, self-starter Familiarity with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) Knowledge of federal/state/local regulations Data analysis; technical writing; Microsoft Office proficiency Incident analysis – root cause to corrective action Physical Demands Ability to bend, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 50 lbs Salary $94,029 - $117,537 annually (San Diego) Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
