Join to apply for the SENIOR ENGINEERING GEOLOGIST role at Caltrans District 3OverviewGeotechnical Services is looking to hire a Branch Chief; they will consider either a Senior Transportation Engineer or a Senior Engineering Geologist for the position. Under the direction of the Chief, Office of Geotechnical Design West, the Senior acts as Branch Chief to independently supervise staff who plan, organize, perform, manage, and oversee geotechnical studies for structure foundations and significant roadway features. The Branch Chief provides support to District and Division of Engineering Services clients in development of transportation projects by providing expertise and documents as necessary to support Planning, Design, Construction, Maintenance, and Legal.ResponsibilitiesDirect staff engaged in investigations (desktop and field), conduct engineering geologic work and geotechnical evaluations, perform designs, and prepare preliminary and final Geotechnical Design Reports, Foundation Reports, and Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).Provide oversight of consultants and service contractors working on geotechnical related transportation projects funded by the Department and/or local agencies.Often function as the lead person of a team to complete a project or task, and represent the Office in meetings with clients.The Senior Transportation Engineer must be a licensed Professional Engineer - Civil and will be experienced in Project Development and the discipline of Geotechnical Engineering as related to projects on the State Highway System.Minimum QualificationsYou will find the Minimum Requirements in the Class Specification. SENIOR ENGINEERING GEOLOGISTSpecial RequirementsStatement of qualifications (SOQ) required.The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. The SOQ is limited to two pages of single spaced 12-point font and should elaborate and demonstrate proficiency in:Geotechnical design and analysis related to highway facilities including bridges, retaining walls, cuts and fills, and minor foundations.Geotechnical support for highway construction of structure and roadway work.Response to highway maintenance emergency munication including preparing reports and facilitating and leading meetings.Leadership and supervision, including planning and organizing work of staff and staff development.Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If eligibility is based on education, unofficial transcripts/diploma should be provided for verification. Foreign transcripts/degrees require a U.S. equivalency evaluation.
