Job Description

Strategy Consulting and Investing Analyst - Entry LevelDPO Consulting and Investing (DPO&Co) is a boutique Strategy and Operations Consulting firm that exclusively serves middle market Private Equity firms and their portfolio companies, as well as large Family Offices and Independent Sponsors. We specialize in two types of engagements: pre-purchase Due Diligence (Quality of Earnings and financial due diligence, market sizing, Voice of Customer, competitive landscape, value creation planning, etc.) and post-acquisition portco improvement (procurement studies, spend cube analyses, operational improvements, facility consolidation, adjacent service/product entry, strategic growth planning, etc.). The 150+ person team has a global reach, with team members in Chicago, Puerto Rico, New York, Madrid, New Dehli, Jakarta, and Colombia. Our President and namesake, Daniel P. O’Reilly, splits time between Chicago and Puerto Rico, and nearly our entire US team is located in our Chicago office. With 8+ years as a firm and over 250 successful engagements with 80+ different clients under our belts, we’ve also entered the Principal Investing arena ourselves. Since closing our first deal in December 2021, we now have 4 platform companies in our portfolio where we are the GP, and continue to pursue add-ons and new platform investments. DPO will continue adding new platforms to our portfolio with a focus on business services, home services, industrials, transportation and logistics, manufacturing, and distribution. Our core will always be the consulting operation, but the lines will continue to blur between consulting and private equity. In a sense, we’re a 2025 version of what Bain & Co and Bain Capital spawned in the 1990s.The third and final pillar of the business is our Business Process Outsourcing team that is co-located in Indonesia and Colombia. This team has a “dotted line” relationship to the consulting and investing operation, performing a suite of back-office tasks for US-based clients (many of whom are prior and present consulting clients), mostly in the FP&A and supply chain space where it can be difficult to find available, affordable talent in the US.Job Description:This role will be a combination of a first-year Analyst at a bulge bracket consulting firm and a first-year analyst at a Private Equity firm. You will engage in forming deep insights from large data sets, desktop research, client material preparation, market sizing, financial analysis/forecasting, deal sourcing, and a host of other activities that will allow us to drive value for our clients on the consulting side, and build our portfolio on the principal investing side. Hands-on functions like site visits, client and customer interviews, and time studies will be paired with more traditional financial analysis and investment research, requiring a well-rounded and adaptable candidate. While we hope that the ideal candidate would stay with us for their entire career, this unique opportunity will open doors to attend a top 5 business school or be an executive at one of our portfolio companies. You will be immediately exposed to a broad range of industries and business functions, and will be required to take on loads of responsibility to support our small (but rapidly growing) team. When the team is not fully utilized on client engagements, we will work with/at/on our own platform businesses - taking people who got 1500s on their SATs and pointing them at problems that people with GEDs are typically solving. A common path for our team members is to spend a few years on the consulting team and then become the Chief of Staff or right hand person to a CEO at a portfolio company in which we’re invested. This ‘fast track’ experience enables us to have energentic, hungry entrepreneurs in roles they otherwise would never qualify for on a more traditional route. Leading to outsized gains for both us, and the individual.Travel is project dependent. While we try to limit our time on the road as much as possible, some engagements require us to be onsite 80% of the time for several weeks. Under normal circumstances, expect no more than 2 cumulative weeks of travel per quarter. Our US team is mostly Chicago-based, and we have our own dedicated office space to encourage collaboration. While remote or work-from-home opportunities will present themselves regularly, this role is expected to be in the office most days, particularly for the first few months while you climb the learning curve.Job Requirements:Conform to our values: Honesty and integrity, humility, respect, fairness, and a commitment to results with an analytical focusGregarious & fun: Someone we want to spend time with; everyone here is a friendProblem solver: Energized by dissecting business problems and developing solutions; has the ability to suggest multiple approaches and can integrate new information to create additional insightsStructured thinker: Capable of providing structure and order to what is often a vast amount of information; successful candidates do not lose sight of the high-level strategy and organize thoughts and activities in a logical mannerResults oriented: A successful candidate carefully examines the intended impact of action and understands that our firm’s activities must lead to actions, which in turn lead to measurable results for both our clients and our firmTeam player: Thrives on engaging in discussion with colleagues to develop impactful solutions; reaches out proactively to others for input; works as a thought partnerDetail-oriented: An individual who takes personal pride in being certain that all aspects of an assignment are completed correctlyHighest of ethical standards; stands up for those without a voice and consistently does the “right thing’.
