The purpose of this position is to provide basic Medicare, Medicaid and other benefits information to callers and directs callers to other resources. Documents caller activity. Provides application assistance and submits applications for public benefits. Assists with Benefits Counseling program activities. Provides regular phone support for the departmentAnswers Medicare and Medicaid calls from consumers and provides basic information about Medicare Parts A, B, and D; Medicare Advantage; and Health and Human Services programs. Consults source documents or does brief research as needed to provide consumer information. Mails information to consumers as requested. Enters caller/client data in SAMS reporting system.Screens individuals for public benefits, completes and submits application for programs that include, but are not limited to, Medicare Savings Programs, Part D Extra Help, and SNAP. Completes Medicare plan comparisons. Mails and axes documents as needed. Maintains client records related to application submission. Enters client data in SAMS reporting system.Enters Benefits Counseling volunteers client data in SAMS reporting system; enters staff overflow client data as needed.Assists with educational mailouts and logistics related to ordering and distributing outreach items. Maintains outreach documents in easily accessible electronic files. Sends periodic satisfaction surveys to consumers and tabulates results. Helps update handouts and informational tip sheets. Mails and/or emails educational materials to Benefits Counseling program volunteers and aging network contacts. Performs related duties such as formatting and proofreading documents, making copies, and scanning documents.Serves as departmental phone assistant by distributing calls to correct social service agencies or internal staff; distributing messages; obtaining information and processing incoming calls.Experience & SkillsWork requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondences schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training1-3 years of experienceBilingual PreferredCertificationStrongly Preferred: Senior Medicare Patrol training Benefits Counselor I
