Meriwether Godsey is looking for a talented Chef to assist the Executive Chef in leading the high-volume dining program, as well as special events at Sweet Briar College, located in Amherst, VA. What you will do: Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meals and other items.Supervise and/or coordinate activities of cooks and other staff engaged in preparation, cooking, garnishing, or presentation of food Design recipes and recommend changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve products and ensure quality Order or requisition food or other supplies needed to ensure efficient operation Monitor and record kitchen inventory; order food supplies and receive and check products for freshness and qualityDetermine how food should be presented and create decorative food displays Ensure correct use of equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and schedule equipment maintenanceInspect supplies, equipment, or work areas to ensure conformance to established standards Demonstrate new cooking techniques or equipment to staff Check the quality of raw or cooked food products to ensure that standards are met. Record operational or production data Prepare and cook foods of all types, either on a regular basis or for special guests or functions Keep food production areas, kitchen equipment, and storage areas clean, organized, and sanitized; participate in and assist with coordinating the cleaning of cooking areas and equipment.Attend production meetings daily; offer input regarding leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practicesRegular & Predictable AttendanceOther duties, as assignedWhat you need: Exceptional cooking skills; 4+ years of culinary experience requiredApplication and promotion of current food trendsProficiency and growing knowledge of sustainable practicesParticipative management style and excellent leadership skillsDemonstrated experience cultivating talent and promoting an inclusive work environment Strong communication and presentation skillsKnowledge of food safety (HACCP), sanitation, and overall workplace safety standardsAbility to work in a collaborative team environment while fostering strong client and customer relationshipsServSafe® Certification or ability to obtain within 6 monthsWhat you will get:Competitive Pay, Uniforms, Meals, Training, Mentorship, and Benefits (Health, Vision, Dental, etc.)Meriwether Godsey offers significant opportunities for growth and career advancement.
