Lab Technician

Job Title: Lab Technician Job Description This position operates from Monday to Friday, midnight to 8 AM. It is a contract-to-hire role contingent upon performance. The lab technician will be responsible for working with raw milk tanker samples and conducting various tests in the Main Lab using specialized lab equipment. Responsibilities + Perform Animal Drug Residue testing, requiring Appendix N certification from the State which will be provided. + Conduct Added Water/Cryo testing to obtain freezing points. + Carry out DMC testing by obtaining samples, staining slides, and reading results under a microscope to detect bacteria and other microorganisms. + Measure the percentage of titratable acidity in milk using sodium hydroxide, assessing factors affecting milk taste, shelf-life, and quality. + Evaluate flavor and odor by heating samples in a microwave, cooling them, and conducting taste and smell tests. + Determine butterfat and total solids content using FOSS 120 equipment. + Perform pH/Acidity tests, spin testing (centrifuge), and autoclaving. + Monitor silo/cooler temperatures and conduct titrations on chemicals used in/on plant equipment. + Verify paperwork, perform homogenization testing, equipment start-up testing (ATP), and daily scale calibrations. + Plate samples, read plates, and enter data into QA Studio. + Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills + Proficiency in microbiology and pipetting. + Experience in laboratory settings and food science. + Knowledge of GMPs and quality assurance practices. + Skill in documentation and following lab GMPs & SOPs. + Ability to incubate samples, stain/create slides, and learn equipment via hands-on training. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in Biology or related science is preferred. + Experience in dairy or food manufacturing is advantageous. + Candidates from the pharmaceutical industry are also welcome. Work Environment The position is within a beverage manufacturing facility. The lab technician will use equipment such as the Charm unit/incubator, cryoscope, microscope, and FOSS 120. Work attire must comply with GMP guidelines within the lab setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Frederick, Maryland.
