Job Title: Phlebotomist Job Description The primary role of a phlebotomist is to support various assigned tasks, troubleshoot, train, and offer workflow recommendations. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate work areas. + Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures. + Clearly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods such as urine or fecal collection. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. + Fully understand and adhere to physicians' orders. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. + Ensure accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts. + Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures. + Follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport. + Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department training sessions. + Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required. + High School Diploma or GED. + 2-4 years of experience in blood draw and venipuncture. + Proficiency in using straight needles and butterfly needles. + Understanding of OSHA and DEP regulations. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Customer service experience. + Experience with pediatric blood draws. + CPT coding knowledge. Work Environment This position operates in a primary care setting, serving patients of all ages. Work hours are Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Falls Church, Virginia. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
