Assistant Cook

Key Responsibilities Kitchen Operations * Oversee assigned meals following menu schedule * Ensure food is prepared and served at scheduled times * Maintain high standards of cleanliness and order * Comply with OSHA and food service standards * Enforce personal hygiene and appropriate attire requirements Supervision & Training * Supervise kitchen helpers during Chef's absence * Train and oversee beneficiaries in kitchen duties * Ensure compliance with food safety protocols * Fill in for Resident Manager as needed (evening/overnight shift) Facility Management * Maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization * Monitor food safety and storage standards * Assist with inventory management * Support overall kitchen operations Qualifications Education & Experience * High school diploma or equivalent required * Graduate of accredited food service program preferred * Six months institutional cooking experience preferred Skills & Abilities * Strong communication skills in English * Basic computer proficiency * Basic math skills * Manual dexterity and attention to detail * Ability to follow food safety protocols What We Offer * Professional development opportunities * Supportive team environment * Mission-driven organization * Training and advancement potential Physical Requirements * Regular standing and walking * Lifting/moving up to 50 pounds * Manual dexterity for food preparation * Ability to work in varying temperatures Work Environment * Kitchen setting with moderate noise * Warm and humid conditions * Temperature fluctuations * Some travel may be required for training The Salvation Army is an equal opportunity employer.
