Mansfield has top-rated schools, over 1000 acres of parkland, quality housing, a historic downtown area, recreational opportunities for all ages, and a growing business community. **The role you'll contribute:** The Outpatient Surgery RN practices as a professional nurse within the limits of the Texas Nurse Practice Act assuming responsibility and accountability for the outpatient surgery patients for a designated time frame utilizing skills, knowledge and the nursing process to ensure the quality of care provided and in harmony with the philosophy, goals and policies of the Nursing Department and hospital administration. **The value you'll bring to the team:** Assesses patient and family needs to provide necessary data to health care team to ensure quality total care. Completes gathering of data to analyze and make assessment of nursing needs to formulate the initial nursing care plan including discharge plan. Identifies and reports abnormalities or instabilities of the patients condition to anesthesia or surgeon, after admission assessment. Observes and assesses each assigned patient during their stay in outpatient surgery department. Documents all medications and drug allergies in i-Connect. Stamps and compiles patient charts according to unit policy. Records appropriate information on hand-off report and in i-Connect per department policy. Identifies and records patient/family needs providing pre-op and post-op teaching. Demonstrates the skill and judgment necessary to implement physician's orders, procedures and nursing intervention. Implements nursing interventions and physician's orders accurately and promptly. Accurately prepares and administers medications and IV fluids according to orders and hospital policy. Ensures that each patient is prepared and ready prior to scheduled operating time. Accurately prepares and administers blood and blood products according to orders and hospital policy. Participates in coordination of scheduling for preparation of outpatients for G.I. Lab procedures, heart caths, Radiology procedures, Yag lasers, infusion patients, and surgery patients. Works with surgeons, ancillary departments and anesthesia to provide quality care for the patient. When applicable, follows hospital protocol and physician orders regarding use of restraints. Reports any safety concerns to Care Manager and Charge Nurse. Functions in a safe manner. Evaluates the Plan of Care, the care provided and the patients responses to reassess and meet the needs of the patients/families to determine effectiveness of the health care provided. Evaluates and records the patient responses to nursing interventions in i-Connect. Demonstrates effectiveness of care on all patients each day in Outpatient Surgery department. Identifies and documents significant changes in the post-operative condition of each patient as evidenced by i-Connect documentation and discussion with appropriate team members for all of the patients. Gives each outpatient surgery patient upon dismissal patient satisfaction questionnaire. Discharges the patient in accordance with written policies and criteria. Communicates with patients in Outpatient Surgery department as evidenced by rounding form. Monitors lab data received on assigned patients. Demonstrates responsibility for unit by utilization of supplies and equipment in a safe, therapeutic, cost effective manner. Orders supplies for unit as necessary to maintain an adequate supply. Checks crash cart daily, this includes checking the laryngoscope, ambu bag and life pak, as evidenced by crash cart checklist, with no variances except on weekends when not here. Stocks the outpatient rooms daily as evidenced by nurse management. Performs opening or closing of the unit duties daily, as scheduled. Associate remains flexible to changing systems, is expected to demonstrated quality and effectiveness in work habits and treat staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect. Understands the Computerized Physician Order entry process and proficiently uses the electronic medical record for retrieval of patient information. Understands computer downtime procedures. Monitors Electronic Medical Record for new physician orders and diagnostic results. Qualifications **The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:** High level of organizational skills. Computer skills required. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. One year full time previous experience as RN on surgical floor or recovery room, preferably surgical unit. Currently licensed to practice as an RN in the state of Texas or qualifying compact state.
