Position Type: New York Elementary School Teaching/Substitute TeacherDate Posted: 6/4/2025Location: Bronx Arts & Science Charter SchoolDate Available: 08/11/2025Position Title: Permanent Substitute Summary: The substitute teacher will assume professional responsibility for providing learning experiences and supervision of students in a supportive and positive classroom environment. Compensation: $40,750 per year Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation. Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary. Demonstrate working knowledge of the use of various technological software and equipment for tasks such as, but not limited to, word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications. Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school-related matters. Knowledge of child growth and development, individual differences in ability, personality and interests and learning/motivational techniques. Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of grade specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught. Knowledge of Smartboard functions and tools. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; parents, students and faculty etc. Prior to employment, the following must be addressed: Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense. The permanent substitute will: Maintain familiarity with district and New York state standards, charter schools policies and school procedures. Pursue the vision and execute the mission of iLearn Schools Inc. and help foster and maintain an effective and caring learning climate in the classroom. Serve as a role model for students, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility as well as pride in the education profession. Effectively budget class time and discipline students in a fair and consistent manner using school approved procedures. Be an active listener giving full attention to what others are saying, taking the time to understand the points being made and asking questions as appropriate. Assume the responsibility of providing classroom instruction and student academic assistance. Follow school affirmative action procedures and possess an understanding of the school emergency response plan. Report to the assistant director of operations or school receptionist upon arrival at the school. Communicate, collaborate and cooperate with administration, faculty and students. Communicate with the assistant director of operations/designee about any concerns within the classroom or with students assigned to the classroom. Plans needed activities when lesson plans do not structure the entire class periods with planned learning activities. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the School Director and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
