AmeriCorps Site Lead After-School All-Stars (ASAS) offers free programming to approximately 500 students in DC, mostly middle schoolers. Every day school is in session, from 3:15 to 6:00, ASAS provides academic support and a variety of enrichment opportunities to young people who otherwise have no access to extended learning activities. In addition to academic support, our program includes four enrichment components: Visual and Performing Arts, Health and Fitness, Career Exploration Opportunities, and Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) activities. Socio-Emotional Learning and mentoring infuse every aspect of the program. We create a safe space for students to share and process their lived experiences, to explore their interests and find their passion. We help them create a positive self-image and develop positive life-long habits and goals for a successful life and career. Member Duties : The AmeriCorps Program Site Lead supports afterschool academic and enrichment activities and data collection, activity planning, service projects, and evaluation effort in 6 Title 1 public schools in Wards 5, 6, and 8 in Washington, DC. AmeriCorps members engage students in learning and foster connections to their schools, communities, and one another; they facilitate daily after-school programming from 3 to 6 PM, focused on academic excellence and socio-emotional growth. The members will be instrumental in implementing mentoring programming alongside the Mentor Coordinator as well as collaborating with the Site Coordinator in the facilitation of online tutoring for students. The AmeriCorps members will recruit and leverage additional volunteers to support students, programming and service projects. AmeriCorps members will assist with the collection of data (e.g., daily attendance and students' surveys) to support the chapter's program evaluation activities.
