TITLE: Plumber Technician HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours per week SALARY: Pay Grade 105 (steps based on experience) | Classified Scale BENEFITS: Full benefits including paid holidays, sick leave and annual leave, health insurance and retirement. Local supplement of 5.5% starts the month after completion of first year. State longevity after 10 years of service. QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma or the equivalent. * Two years of maintenance experience, preferably in an educational setting. * Successful completion of a plumbing apprenticeship program. * Valid North Carolina Driver's License. * Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Plumber JOB GOAL: To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: * Assumes secondary responsibility for the safe condition of pipes, drains, and plumbing fixtures in the facilities owned or operated by the district. * Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dish-washers, and water softeners. * Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains. * Maintenance of outdoor sprinklers, waste disposal systems, radiators, and similar plumbing-related installations. * Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence installation. * Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob. * Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools. * Cuts, threads, assembles, and installs pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe threading machine. * Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals and non-metals. * Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking. * Installs partitions in bathrooms. * Receives work orders and confers with supervisor to plan and review work projects. * Examines district-owned facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventative maintenance. * Responds to emergency calls as appropriate. * Performs other duties as assigned.
