2nd shift Straddle Crane/Travelift Operator

Title: Straddle Crane Operator Status: Non-ExemptPosition Summary: MUST be able to work 2nd shift and weekend. This is NOT a day position. Crane Operators at Veritas Steel are responsible for performance of various operator/laborer duties. Operators must also adhere to company policies to ensure a safe working environment.Principle Duties and ResponsibilitiesUses proper safety equipment to ensure surfaces are adequately prepared for all operations:• Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.• Manipulates or depresses crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.• Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.• May attach load to hook or other crane accessory prior to operating crane and be designated Crane Operator-Hooker (steel & rel.)• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.• Performing only those jobs on which they have been trained and/or authorized.• Using required personal protective equipment• Reporting unsafe conditions or practices• Making safety suggestions• Cooperating during investigation of any accidents that occur• Taking an active part and participating in safety meetings, pre-job safety briefings, task hazard analyses and Job Safety Analyses.• ScopeReports directly to their lead person and works closely with other welders on a daily basis.Measures of Performanceo Quality, accuracy, thoroughness, and reliability of work performedo Safety record and no damage to products or equipmento Works with coworkers to meet the performance and productivity goals of the workdayo Ability to establish and maintain trust and respect of shop supervisors and coworkersKnowledge, Skills, and Abilitieso Must be able to read, write, and comprehend Englisho Must to be able to read metric tapeso Flexibility is necessary to work with others in a variety of circumstances and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methodso Must be able to work with a wide variety of individuals in the workplaceo Employee must be able to adapt to changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, meet deadlines and schedules, work as part of a team, and work with constant interruptions during the workdayo Employee must be able to deal effectively with times pressures, long hours, rapidly changing priorities, and stresso Know basic mathPhysical Requirementso Able to lift 40 pounds and carry 30 poundso Must be able to push /move objects up to 50 pounds of forceo Necessary to stand, walk, stoop, and kneel up to 99% of shifto Must have good range of motion when reaching forward, shoulder to overhead, and bendingo Agile fingers and thumbs on both handsWorking ConditionsWork at Veritas Steel is performed indoors in a large warehouse and outside in all weather conditions.
