Custodian Leads help keep University Housing spaces safe and clean for residents, staff, and guests. They also assist in coordinating tasks, providing leadership, and assisting with training for new staff members. As a Custodian Lead in University Housing you will: Communicate with residents and guests to address needs and service requests Complete work in occupied or vacant residence hall and dining spaces Demonstrates and role models exceptional customer service Creates, promotes and participates in a collaborative team environment Maintains and implements prescribed cleaning standards Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency Communicates in English via radio, written instruction, and in person with staff and supervisors Assists with resident move in and out operations Monitors and communicates the performance of systems and staff within facilities Work Schedule: Multiple vacancies may be available 1st shift position(s): Typical schedule is 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts, for total of 40 hours per week. Some positions include scheduled shifts every other weekend. 2nd shift position(s): Typical schedule is 3:00pm-11:30pm, 8-hour shifts, for a total of 40 hours per week, including rotating holidays and weekend shifts. Work schedule will be set with selected finalist(s) at time of offer. As a part of UW-Madison, we also offer excellent UW benefits like competitive insurances and generous paid time off, professional development opportunities, and the State of Wisconsin retirement pension plan.Key Job Responsibilities: Schedules, monitors, and communicates with staff and assists with basic trainingMonitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entitiesAssists residents and guests with event set up and take downDocuments and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needsResponds to facility emergency and hazardous situations, and escalates incidents according to established policies and proceduresMaintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as neededMaintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and icePrepares, services, and/or maintains residence hall and dining facilities for residents and guestsUtilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclablesDepartment: Division of University Housing, University Housing FacilitiesUniversity Housing Facilities is a part of the Division of University Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and focuses on housekeeping, mechanical maintenance, and long-term infrastructure projects and planning. As a student service organization, University Housing Facilitiesprovides quality living/learning environments to approximately 8,000 undergraduate student residents during the academic year and 18,000 guests in the summer months. Additionally, they serve the University Apartments community, which is approximately 3,000 residents in 1,240 apartments on 83 acres.University Residence Halls consists of 30 buildings containing approximately 2 million square feet and 37 acres of surrounding grounds. In addition to residential living spaces the residence hall infrastructure supports many functions and programs requiring many types of spaces such as classrooms, office space, dining and culinary space including commercial kitchens and marketplace areas, mechanical support spaces and large meeting rooms.Compensation: $18.36/hour with a competitive retirement and benefits package, including vacation, holidays, and paid time off. This is a full-time position.Those currently in the Custodian title at UW-Madison may earn an additional $1.00 per hour from their current hourly rate. This would be applied in cases where the hourly rate plus $1.00 would exceed $18.36.University Staff also earn additional money when working at night (6:00pm to 6:00am) and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday). Additional $2.50/hour for nighttime work on weekdays, up to $2.50/hour for daytime weekend work, and up to $3.30/hour for nighttime weekend work.Current UW-Madison employees may be eligible to be hired up to their current rate of compensation, based on qualifications.Required Qualifications: English Proficiency with the ability to speak, read, write, and understand verbal instructions 6 months of custodial and/or cleaning experience within an academic, commercial, or other related environment Preferred Qualifications: Leadership experience Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards Education: High School diploma preferredHow to Apply: Please submit a resume within the online application system.
