Job Title: Phlebotomist I Job Description The main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Responsibilities * Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data. * Decontaminate and update patient information. * Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. * Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) clearly and courteously. * Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. * Fully understand all physicians' orders. * Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. * Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. * Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script 100%. * Package specimens for transport and store them according to the required temperature. * Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow procedures necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen. * Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. * Attend annual department trainings. * Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills * Phlebotomy and specimen processing expertise. * Proficiency in patient care, particularly in blood draw, venipuncture, and drawing blood. * Experience in medical, pediatric, and geriatrics settings. * Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. * Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Additional Skills & Qualifications * High School Diploma or GED. * 0-2 years of experience in related fields. Work Environment This role typically operates in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting, where attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are essential. Staff members are expected to dress in professional attire appropriate for a clinical environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
