The technician will play a key role in inspecting in-process, incoming, and finished goods to ensure strict adherence to dimensional, functional, and visual quality standards. The successful candidate will support process control, maintain documentation, and promote continuous improvement across operations. Key Responsibilities Inspection Duties: Perform in-process and final inspections using visual, dimensional, and functional evaluation techniques Maintain proper documentation of inspection results and non-conformances Inspect prototypes and special setups, assist with set-up verification, and manage the movement of materials in and out of the lab Conduct receiving inspections on incoming materials, including certification verification and MRP system entry Manage and calibrate inspection tools, gauges, and measurement equipment Process Control Support: Assist in the development and maintenance of Quality Management System (QMS) documentation Identify and implement process improvements to increase product and system capability Participate in product testing, troubleshooting, and team-based improvement initiatives Documentation and Communication: Ensure proper labeling of inspected materials Maintain accurate records of inspections, certifications, and calibration Communicate inspection results and any quality concerns effectively to the quality and production teams Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; two or more years of experience as a quality technician in metalworking preferred Familiarity with gear metrology and gear nomenclature is a plus Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical procedures Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office and quality data collection systems Certification such as ASQ-CQI or ASQ-CQT preferred Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Measurement Tools Experience Candidates should be proficient in the use of various tools and systems including: Calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, thread and plug gages Optical comparators and profile projectors Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM) Gear inspection tools (computerized gear checkers, Vari-roll, M&M fixtures) Sunnen ID gages, Marposs, air gages, hardness testers Surface plate methods and equipment Working Environment Air-conditioned and heated manufacturing facility Potential exposure to dust, solvents, oils, and industrial materials Full-time, on-site position with 100% presence required unless otherwise approved by a supervisor Equal Opportunity Employer Schafer Industries is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.
