We’re looking for a Clinical Coding Specialist to join our Revenue Cycle team and help shape the future of AI-powered medical documentation.The RoleWe’re looking for a Clinical Coding Specialist with deep expertise in medical coding to guide the development of Heidi's AI scribe platform into compliant, billable, structured medical documentation.You'll be the clinical coding expert who ensures our AI systems understand and apply medical coding principles correctly, working directly with our engineering team to embed your expertise into automated systems that support clinicians seamlessly. You'll play a crucial role in defining coding accuracy standards, validation processes, and compliance frameworks that power millions of patient encounters.What you'll do:You'll work as the clinical coding subject matter expert to ensure our AI-powered systems meet the highest standards of medical coding accuracy and compliance:Lead medical coding validation for AI-generated documentation, ensuring accurate application of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes across diverse clinical scenariosDevelop coding guidelines and protocols that translate complex medical coding rules into systematic processes our AI can learn and apply consistentlyConduct quality audits of AI-coded documentation, identifying patterns, gaps, and opportunities for improvement in coding accuracy and complianceCollaborate with engineering teams to translate medical coding expertise into technical requirements, validation rules, and system improvementsWork directly with clinicians to understand documentation patterns, clinical decision-making, and coding challenges in real-world healthcare settingsEnsure regulatory compliance with CMS guidelines, payer-specific coding requirements, and emerging healthcare regulationsTrain and mentor junior coders and provide coding expertise to cross-functional teamsAnalyze coding data and metrics to identify trends, accuracy patterns, and areas for system optimizationStay current with coding updates including annual ICD-10 and CPT updates, payer policy changes, and industry best practicesSupport customer implementations by providing coding expertise during enterprise client onboarding and troubleshootingWhat we’ll look for5+ years of professional medical coding experience in hospital, clinic, or health system environmentsExpert-level knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS Level II, and medical terminology across multiple specialtiesProfessional certifications such as CCS, CPC, RHIA, RHIT, or equivalent recognized coding credentialsMulti-specialty coding experience including inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, and specialty clinic codingStrong understanding of Medicare/Medicaid guidelines, commercial payer requirements, and compliance regulationsExperience with coding audits and quality assurance processes, including accuracy measurement and improvement initiativesFamiliarity with EHR systems and clinical documentation workflows in various healthcare settingsAnalytical skills with ability to identify coding patterns, trends, and systematic issuesCommunication skills to work effectively with clinical teams, engineers, and healthcare administratorsAdaptability to work in a fast-paced technology environment and translate traditional coding processes into innovative AI-powered solutionsWhat do we believe in?We create unconventional solutions to difficult problems and we build them fast.
