GENERAL SUMMARYThe Director, Security has the overall responsibility and direction for planning, developing, implementing, operationalizing, and continually enhancing & improving comprehensive security strategies across an organization. In addition, this position oversees physical security measures, manages risk assessments, and leads incident response plans to protect visitors, personnel, property, and assets. The Director, Security will also assume key responsibilities to include establishing security policies, conducting vulnerability analyses, coordinating with law enforcement, and ensuring staff are adequately trained on security protocols to include integrating security efforts with a member of the Information Services (I.S.) team to include cybersecurity and assessment of cyberthreats. Reports to department leadership. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Planning: Develops and executes holistic short- and long-range planning for the health’s system physical security strategy aligned with company objectives, which includes conducting risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities across the organization. Establishes security policies, standards, and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with regulations. Deploys approved state-of-the-art security technology solutions and innovative security management techniques to safeguard the health system within budget guidelines. Serves as the organization’s key member of the emergency response team representing Security. Physical Security Management: Oversees access control systems, closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance, perimeter security, and building security measures. Works with local, state and federal authorities as needed in the investigation and resolution of all security events involving the health system. Investigations and Incident Response: Leads investigations into security incidents, including internal misconduct, theft, and suspicious activity. Manages crisis response teams and coordinate with law enforcement agencies during security breaches or emergencies. Works with I.S. to review cybersecurity and cyberthreat assessments as warranted. Training and Awareness: Develops and delivers comprehensive security awareness training programs for employees at all levels. Promotes a security culture within the organization, encouraging employees to report suspicious activity. Management Responsibilities: Establishes and maintains a process for organizing and managing service agreements, contracts, regulatory documents, policies and procedures and any other required documentation pertinent to Security operations. Guides daily departmental operational activities and works collaboratively with all organizational and departmental leaders to ensure secure environments comprehensively. Manages security personnel, including guards, patrols, and response teams. CHKD representative to the Campus Parking Consortium and assist in managing parking facilities for CHKDHS personnel. Assesses departmental performance, identifies opportunities for improvement and executes plans for improvement. Leads, manages, coaches, and trains a team or department, provide guidance, support, and mentors to ensure optimal performance and productivity. Oversees the recruitment, hiring, team/department orientation, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions including up to termination processes for a team or department. Performs all other duties as assigned. LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS Required Licenses and/or Certifications CPP (Certified Protection Professional) by American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) International is required at time of hire or must be acquired within 1 year of hire. Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications PSC (Physical Security Certification) or CPO (Certified Protection Officer) preferred. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university is required. 5+ years of extensive and progressive experience in Security Management with three plus years of the related work experience in leadership role required. At time of hire, a record of completion and/or enrollment for all education, licenses, training and/or certifications is required. Continuous re-certification and/or maintenance of state licensures, certifications, educational and application requirements is required during employment. Preferred Education and Experience Master’s degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university is preferred. Extensive and progressive experience in Physical Security and Risk Assessment preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Deep understanding of relevant security laws, regulations, and industry best practices. Must have knowledge of various codes and regulations that pertain to healthcare, ambulatory healthcare, and business occupancies. Proven leadership skills to manage a security team and collaborate with cross-functional departments. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technology to continually enhance & improve comprehensive security strategies. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and mitigate security risks Proven verbal and written communication skills and success in dealing with high level administration. Demonstrates performance of high-level decision-making in operational management capacity. Proven ability in developing and maintaining relationships with higher management, peers, and subordinates and skilled in resolving conflicts and cooperating with others. Proven knowledge of broad-based management methods and implementation techniques. Skilled in developing, communicating, and directing the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, management systems, work standards and program evaluation. Skilled in creating and maintaining a team atmosphere and representing the department in a positive manner. Skilled in handling multiple tasks and responding and developing action plans quickly when urgent needs arise. Proficient skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and other applicable software. Proven ability in leading, counseling, motivating, and committing to the department’s & organization’s goals. Must be able to demonstrate experience and skills in motivation of employees for peak performance and creative thinking regarding departmental operations. Must meet the insurability policy requirements to drive a CHKD vehicle. Must be able to pass the CHKD driving test within 30 days of employment.
