OverviewDirector of Risk Management Tufts Medicine Behavioral Health HospitalTufts Medicine, a leading integrated academic health system in Massachusetts, and Acadia Healthcare, the largest standalone provider of behavioral health services in the U.S., have partnered to create the Tufts Medicine Behavioral Health Hospital, a state-of-the-art, 144-bed facility in Malden, Massachusetts. Slated to open in fall 2025, this hospital is designed to address the growing need for high-quality behavioral health services in the region.The Tufts Medicine Behavioral Health Hospital will serve as a center of excellence, offering inpatient and intensive outpatient programs for patients of all ages. Additionally, it will function as a teaching hospital, providing a vital training site for future behavioral health professionals, including students and residents from the Tufts University School of Medicine. This initiative aims to address the regional shortage of behavioral health clinicians while ensuring a continuum of care for patients and their families.We are seeking an experienced and strategic Risk Director to lead our facility's risk management efforts and ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. In this leadership role, you will oversee the implementation of a comprehensive risk management program, collaborate with multiple departments to assess and mitigate risks, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization. The Risk Director will lead incident investigations, manage compliance with regulations, and develop proactive strategies to prevent harm and potential liabilities. ResponsibilitiesImplement a robust risk management program throughout the facility.Collaborate and consult with the corporate risk management department.Lead investigations and analyze actual and potential risks in the facility. Collaborate with the Legal team to assess liability and probability of legal action for potential notification. Implement, educate, and encourage incident reporting per policy throughout the facility.Develop and implement infrastructures and systems that support patient safety.Promote a culture of safety by encouraging incident reporting.Collaborate with employees to streamline the incident reporting process, making it more effective and efficient.Collaborate with facility leadership and all departments to monitor and promote compliance with the organization's policies, procedures, state and federal laws, and regulatory agencies.Responsible for identifying high-risk areas that could cause harm to persons receiving services, visitors, and employees.Provide staff development and training related to identifying, reporting, mitigating, and minimizing risk.Collaborate with Patient Advocate to review complaints and grievances to identify potential exposures.Coordinate with facility leadership to establish and implement a Safe Catch Program.Collaborate with QAPI disciplines to complete a Root Cause Analysis for specified events.Establish and lead a Safety Committee that identifies and develops measurable safety initiatives based on facility data that improve the safety culture.Serve as a resource and consultant for risk management activities, performance improvement, policy / procedure development, and compliance initiatives. Other FunctionsPerform other functions and tasks as assigned. Education / Experience / Skill RequirementsBachelor's degree in a clinical healthcare, risk management, business, finance, or a related field required. Master's degree in health information management, nursing, or related field preferred.Two or more years' experience in a risk management position required.One or more years of supervisory experience preferred.Experience with CARF, DEA, Joint Commission, or CMS surveys, as required by service line(s) supported. Licenses / Designations / CertificationsCPHRM Preferred.CPR and de-escalation / restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).First aid may be required based on state or facility.
