Overview Salary range: The current salary range for this position is $80,800-$128,700 (9-month academic year salary). Off-scale salary and other components of pay are offered to meet competitive conditions. Position description The Department of Italian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley is hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Renaissance Italian Literature (1400-1600), with a secondary specialization in gender studies and/or critical race theory. We welcome applications from candidates working on a wide variety of critical approaches, including Mediterranean studies, environmental humanities, postcolonialism, visual culture, book history, material texts, and digital humanities. The successful candidate will teach introductory and special topics courses in Renaissance Italian Literature, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and engage with the broader Renaissance/early modern community on campus. Tenure-track Assistant Professors at Berkeley are expected to excel in research, teaching, and service. Responsibilities include: implementing a program of research culminating in the publication of books and articles; developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate seminars and lecture courses; supervising dissertation research; and participating in administrative activities within the Italian department and across the University. The Department of Italian Studies at UC Berkeley explores Italy’s language, literature, history, and culture through dynamic, interdisciplinary perspectives.
