Senior Mechanical Engineer Location: Charlotte, NC Job Type: Permanent | Hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) About the Role We're seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep technical expertise and leadership experience to drive the design and execution of complex industrial and commercial facility projects. This is a high-impact role within a growing engineering firm where your contributions will shape project outcomes and influence strategic direction. Key Responsibilities + Technical Leadership: Serve as the mechanical discipline lead on capital-intensive projects, ensuring technical excellence and innovation. + System Design: Develop mechanical system architecture including HVAC, piping, utilities, and equipment layouts using advanced modeling tools. + Documentation & Standards: Oversee specifications, procurement packages, system diagrams, and commissioning protocols aligned with industry standards. + Strategic Input: Provide engineering insight during feasibility studies, planning phases, and client engagements. + Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture. + Project Lifecycle Management: Lead mechanical design through FEL/FEED, Detailed Design, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning. + Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Coordinate seamlessly with architectural, structural, electrical, and automation teams. + Client Engagement: Represent the mechanical discipline in client meetings, site visits, and design reviews. + Business Development: Support proposal development, client presentations, and relationship management. Required Qualifications + Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. + Professional Engineering (PE) License required or near completion. + 8-10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design for industrial/commercial facilities. + Expertise in HVAC, piping, utility systems, and equipment layout-especially in manufacturing, life sciences, food & beverage, or pharmaceutical sectors. + Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and BIM workflows. + Strong knowledge of IBC, ASHRAE, and mechanical design codes. + Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing deliverables across project phases. + Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for system analysis and cost modeling. Preferred Skills + Familiarity with automation/control systems (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs). + Ability to assess and optimize existing mechanical systems for performance and cost-efficiency. Work Environment + Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote. + Office setting with moderate noise and climate control. + Occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs) and physical activity required. + Overtime may be necessary during peak project phases.
