Position Summary:Under direct supervision and within an established scope of practice, assists the provider with examinations, treatments, and special procedures of patients as directed by San Ysidro Health policies and procedures in a medical office or clinic setting.Essential Functions of The Job:Upholds San Ysidro Health's Policies and Procedures, Core Values and competencies and applicable state, federal and local laws.Performs routine patient care functions as prescribed by licensed health care providers following established clinical protocols and policies and procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilities. Assists assigned physician(s) and/or other health care professional(s).Clinical Duties:Patient vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight and respiration) Rooming intake, including questionnaire and medication reconciliation Prepares patients for examinations with proper caps, drapes and suppliesCleans and sanitizes exam room after each patientAssists with minor proceduresCollects specimens (blood, urine etc.) and labeling appropriatelyAdministers injections or medications after completion of 10 hours of medication management trainingPerforms basic point of care test, EKGs, hearing and visual acuityApplies principles of aseptic technique and infection control as directed by the Infection Control policy and proceduresMaintains exam room inventory and replenishes medical supplies and materials throughout the day as needed. Maintains inventory logsParticipates and responds, when assigned to clinical emergency codesAutoclave: cleaning, processing, sterilizing and checking of instruments and maintaining logsAdministrative Duties:Documents pertinent patient information, procedures and patient responses in patients' medical record, following established SYH guidelines and maintaining patient confidentialitySchedules and reschedules patient appointmentsUpdates patient medical recordsVerifies insurance informationManages messages and relay results or important information to patient with written instruction from provider, following message management guidelines- staging and routingMaintains medical supplies and inventory and verify no expired supply in stock Participates in ongoing clinical outreach and in reach to meet the clinical care gap standardsAdditional Duties and Responsibilities: Practices customer service standards as defined by SYH and specified clinicAnticipates the customer's needs, takes proactive steps to meet those needs, by listening and problem solvingPromptly responds to alarms and patient requestsFacilitates the customer's ability to utilize resourcesAssures a clean, orderly, and functional work environmentWorks collaboratively with others to meet shared objectivesManages difficult or conflict situations constructively and seeks appropriate assistanceTakes accountability for own actionsActively participates in departmental professional development activitiesAdheres to SYHealth Attendance PolicyAssist in training new hires, transfers and externship studentsOther duties as assignedJob RequirementsEducation Required:High School diploma or GED preferredCompletion of a course of study consistent with the requirements for Medical Assistants as specified by the Medical Board of California.Certifications Required:Current BLS for Healthcare Provider awarded by American Heart AssociationNHA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and NHA- Certified Medical Administration Assistant Certification (CMAA) Experience Required (Minimum level of experience): Completion of externship required by Medical Assisting Program.Minimum 1 year working as a medical assistant.Verbal and Written Skills Required to Perform the Job: Bilingual in Spanish, Tagalog, or Arabic language preferredAbility to read, write and comprehend medical information and terminology.Ability to effectively present information, both verbal and writtenTechnical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job:Demonstrated ability to use computer and Electronic medical recordsDemonstrated ability to use wheelchair, EKG, gurney table, vital machine, pulse oximeter, autoclaveWorking Conditions and Physical Requirements: Continuous standing/walking/twistingOccasionally lifts, pushes and/or transfers patientsExposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)Ability to work a varied, 40 hours per week schedule to include evenings and/or weekends, between the hours of 8 AM to PMReliable transportation necessary for occasional traveling to assist with providing coverage at SYH clinics within San Diego CountyUniversal Requirements:Pre-employment requirements include I-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs.
