OverviewThe Vice President of Business Development will ultimately be responsible for supporting and sustaining Systems Control's growth trajectory through the development and execution of a new-business commercial strategy. Strategic, tactical, and inspirational leadership with external customers and internal constituents is critical to success, as is close coordination with engineering, manufacturing, and finance functions. The VP of Business Development operates with an entrepreneurial spirit, bringing strategic leadership and best practices to the organization.Accountability: Deliver growth initiatives aligned with company strategy and coordinate cross-functional activities to maximize revenue and profitability.What will be a day in the life?DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESIdentify and assess strategic market opportunities across the utility equipment landscape, working with the Board, Comvest/OAG, and Senior Leadership to define the commercial strategy and allocate resourcesBuild a deep understanding of competitor and customer dynamics to tailor Systems Control's value proposition and define its strategic position in the marketExecute the strategy, drive growth, and improve commercial performance in collaboration with Sales, Pricing, and Product DesignEstablish access to top Utility customers and develop close relationships at senior levels to understand needs and deliver solutionsDevelop and maintain a robust pipeline of business development opportunities, including new customers, expanding existing customers, and entering new products and marketsSupport KPI development and a metrics-driven environment with clear, measurable goals and frequent progress analysisOptimize resources, processes, cross-functional and customer relationships to improve revenue growth and gross marginDeliver financial commitments to business operating plans, financial cycles, and medium- to long-term financial frameworks, including:Actively lead controllable expensesLead Business Development's participation in the forecast processCommunicate proactively on variancesPeriodic travel requiredAccountabilitiesSustain historical 15% growth rate by developing a broad base of blue-chip customers in a manner consistent with long-term success while mitigating/consolidating customer concentrationPartner with Senior Leadership to build short- and long-term strategic plans and align the structure and development of the sales team to execute annual tactical plansCollaborate with Operations and Pricing teams to capture real-time feedback on pricing initiatives to drive margin and opportunitiesDefine and deploy weekly/monthly KPIs to analyze trends, performance, and execution of salesSupport internal teams to specify, implement, and execute a CRM system within the first 12 months that supports future scalabilityBuild accurate 6–12 month forecasts to support operations and planningLeverage existing customer relationships to identify parallel growth opportunitiesNegotiate contracts that protect the company and minimize riskStrengthen contractual review, PO review, and associated internal processesEducation & ExperienceBachelor's Degree in business or a technical discipline; MBA or other advanced degree preferred15+ years of professional experience with at least 10 years in senior leadership roles; minimum 10 years leading sales or commercial teams in industrial and/or utility environmentsSignificant experience with senior-level relationships at large-scale electric utilitiesDiverse functional experience in pricing, marketing, go-to-market strategy, revenue management, and salesQualificationsExperience in similar business development roles focused on industrial sales and/or utilities, ideally in organizations with revenue > $250MProactive, responsive, engaged, driven, and accountable with high energyUrgency and accountability; leads by exampleEntrepreneurial spirit and ability to thrive in a fast-changing environmentDirect communication and collaborative mindset; prioritizes best ideas and operates with low egoCollaborative, flexible, and autonomous; capable of cross-organizational alignment and executionStrong personal accountability and ability to drive changeAnalytically oriented, integrating analytics and technology into decision-makingProven ability to recruit, lead, and mentor a high-performing, data-driven teamStrong selling and negotiation skillsTrack record of progressive career growth with expanding responsibilitiesExtreme customer focus and commitment to long-term partnershipsSkillsAbility to define and execute strategy with cross-functional coordinationExperience in market/product strategyStrong analytical and financial skillsOutstanding communication and presentation skillsFamiliarity with the utility landscapeStrong negotiating and decision-making skillsProblem-solving abilityProficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteHubbell IncorporatedHubbell creates critical infrastructure solutions powering customers, communities, people, and the planet.
