Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to support various laboratory duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and recommend workflow improvements. The position involves performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, and updating patient information, among other tasks. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens according to established procedures. + Collect and store specimens, including urine or fecal samples, as required by physician orders. + Explain the specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients. + Demonstrate proper technique using straight and butterfly needles. + Ensure that laboratory requisition forms match specimen tubes accurately. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as necessary for test orders. + Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. + Package specimens for transport, ensuring correct temperature and labeling to maintain specimen integrity. + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department training sessions. + Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results when needed. Essential Skills + Proficiency in phlebotomy, including blood draw and venipuncture. + Experience in specimen processing and laboratory procedures. + Familiarity with pediatric and geriatric blood drawing techniques. + Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required. + Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + High School Diploma or GED. + 0-2 years of relevant experience. Work Environment This position typically operates in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and regulations, with an emphasis on maintaining specimen integrity throughout the collection and transportation process. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hickory, North Carolina. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
