GAQ426R199OverviewDatabricks is looking for a Senior Manager, Indirect Tax, to join our Finance organization. This person will lead the planning function of the tax department and improve the quality and accuracy of our international tax disclosures in our financial statements and tax returns. The ideal candidate will be a creative self-starter who is highly organized and energized by working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This position will report to the Senior Director of Tax and work with cross-functional leaders inside and outside the Finance department.The Senior Manager, Indirect Tax will work with the tax team leadership to optimize the company/'s global tax position, with a strong focus on U.S. Sales and Use tax matters as well as global GST/VAT and other indirect tax matters.ResponsibilitiesOwning Indirect Tax Return Compliance through accurate reporting of our global indirect tax returns for U.S. sales tax, Canadian GST, Indian GST, and other indirect and business taxesIdentifying technology and process improvements to improve overall compliance processesCreating and implementing tax planning strategies to lower our overall tax burden within local legal limits & lawsActively participate in the review of proposed transactions, new product launches, and global expansion to properly advise management of the tax ramifications to our business and our customersAssessing and mitigating indirect tax risks in acquisitions and leading the indirect tax integration processBecome a trusted advisor to the sales and engineering teams to assess new products for taxability determinations and enable the sales teams to close deals faster with less friction on tax mattersDeveloping controversy strategies and processes to respond to requests for information from government tax authorities to defend our filing positions and close audits with minimal tax costsOversee our indirect tax return preparers (SaaS vendors & accounting firms) and identify areas to improve quality or reduce costs to prioritize resources for global expansion or entering into new operating structuresKeeping current on developments in global tax that may affect the business, analyzing legislation, participating in modeling scenarios, and communicating tax-related information effectively to stakeholders including the finance leadership teamWhat we look forBA/BS degree in Accounting with a focus on Taxation is preferredDirectly related indirect tax experience with Big 4 accounting is strongly preferred. Having in-house tax department experience and experience supervising and developing a team is preferredA minimum of 8 years in depth experience with US Sales & Use tax matters is required while some experience in software taxation and foreign indirect tax matters is preferredDemonstrated experience closing indirect tax audits and identifying process improvements that reduce manual hours spent is criticalExperience working with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders (consultants, auditors, etc) whose mission is to put the Company firstDemonstrated organizational excellence and history of timely completion of dutiesHigh competency in Excel and Google Sheets; can maintain complex spreadsheets that connect to multiple output formats for financial & leadership reporting purposesExperience with Netsuite and Avalara is a plusPay Range TransparencyDatabricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents the expected salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks anticipates utilizing the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above.
