CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT WJM Professional Services LLC is a healthcare management firm with over 19 years of experience providing healthcare personnel for government agencies, hospitals, clinics, and private corporations is recruiting for a Certified Medical Assistant/Medical Assistant (CMA/MA) at the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in Portsmouth, VA, to provide personal medical services to all Active-Duty beneficiaries.RESPONSIBILITIES:Assess patients' needs for CMA/MA care, and plans for medical interventions, assess the effectiveness of the interventions, and alter the medical plan and interventions appropriately.Administers oxygen, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medication.Prepares patients for surgical and or diagnostic procedures.Prepares, operates, and monitors specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, defibrillators, etc.Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur, in addition to regularly scheduled appointments.Greet and receive patients to the clinic, discreetly ascertaining the nature of their illness or condition, and direct them to appropriate care.Responds to requests for routine non-medical information such as duty status.Receive and screen phone calls.Files and maintains Healthcare records.Files health care reports in health records.Maintains the Health Record checkout file.Inputs daily patient information into the Coast Guard Healthcare Information Systems.Familiar with Microsoft Office, to track data, generate reports, and prepare presentations.Reviews and routes incoming correspondence.Schedules and tracks consultations for specialty care.Maintains a referral log and notifies patients of appointments.Reviews and verifies patient eligibility for care under the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS) computer system guidelines.Provide instruction to clinic staff on an ad hoc basis.Prepare and submit appropriate documentation as specified in applicable regulations.Become familiar with the TRICARE medical benefits program through completion of appropriate nonresident training and offer benefits counseling to Coast Guard beneficiaries regarding utilizing their TRICARE benefit.REQUIREMENTS:A certificate or associate degree as a CMA/MA from a state-accredited program and 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months, OR,Certification from a military medical assistant (i.e., Health Service Technician, Hospital Corpsman) 'A'' school and 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months, OR,36 months' experience within the preceding 60 months as a medical assistant in a private practice, and completed the requirements for certification.The National Commission for Certifying Agencies, part of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence, accredits four certifications for medical assistants:Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists, National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency TestingCertified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Health Career Association.Maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI), or the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).A current unrestricted certification from an accredited certifying agency, if applicable.Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) for the Health Care Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI), or the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).WJM offers an excellent salary and benefits package.
