OverviewSenior Avionics Mechanical Engineer role at Impulse Space. Compensation: $140,000 - $170,000 / year. Department: Avionics. Location: Redondo Beach.DescriptionAs a Senior Avionics Mechanical Engineer on the Avionics Team, you are responsible for the design, build, test/analysis and integration of hardware, working with cross-functional engineering teams to accomplish cradle-to-grave ownership of mechanical designs and systems in support of Impulse’s next-generation propulsion space vehicles.ResponsibilitiesOwn all aspects of hardware development and execution, from concept through design, test, and launchFormulate a comprehensive cradle-to-grave road map for your hardwareNavigate ambiguity to establish requirements that ensure system-level successPerform and document analyses with clear objectives to support design intent, including hand calculations and FEAIncorporate manufacturing trades into conceptual design, emphasizing DFM and DFAGuide all aspects of hardware maturity, project-managing end users, stakeholders, and contributors to ensure the system matures coherentlyCommunicate with adjacent designs (vehicle, GNC, electrical, software) to support hardware assumptionsConduct design reviews (CoDR, PDR, CDR) with cross-disciplinary teams and establish open risks and mitigationsAnalyze structural modes, thermal performance, and other critical aspects of avionics devicesProduce engineering drawings with GD&T specifications for manufacturingGenerate Test Plans and support the execution of structural and thermal qualification and acceptance testingWork with internal manufacturing and external sources to procure materials, fabricate parts, and complete assembliesUpdate designs and documentation to support continuous improvementMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering or related field4+ years of demonstrated experience in mechanical designProficiency in CAD software with ability to learn new toolsDemonstrated ability in conceptual design, fabrication and testing of hardwareExperience collaborating across different teamsAbility to communicate technical challenges and rationalePreferred Skills and ExperienceMasters' degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering7+ years of demonstrated mechanical design & analysis with space-flown hardware4+ years' experience with geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T)4+ years' experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)Experience with mechanical design in challenging vibration/thermal environmentsCreative, self-driven, and able to lead projects to completionExperience at a startup or agile development environmentExperience with NX and TeamcenterAdditional InformationCompensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
