OverviewJob Title: Chief Financial OfficerReporting Structure: Reports to Head of School, member of School Leadership TeamFLSA Classification: ExemptGeneral Classification: Salaried, Full-Time, RegularLocation: Bellevue, WA | open to remote work 1-2 days per weekPosition Summary: The Chief Financial Officer plays a vital role in the Jewish Day School of Seattle’s Administration team, overseeing the school’s strategic financial planning, overall financial health, risk management, and oversight of financial compliance and audit processes. This position is a member of the Leadership Team leading strategic finance, financial operations, benefits, and overseeing the Business Operations Manager. Working closely with Leadership, Administration, Teachers, and other staff, this role combines creating and driving business strategy with fiduciary acuity to manage the school’s budget and overall fiscal responsibility.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategically partnering with the Head of School to develop short and long-range budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models that align with the strategic priorities of the schoolPartner with the Head of School and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees to plan and facilitate finance committee meetingsManage bank accounts and investment portfolios, with a focus on liquidity, risk, and financial stabilityEnsure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal staff and external stakeholders, including Finance Committee, Board, and FundersOversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, tuition receivable, payroll, and employee benefitsPrepare for and oversee annual financial statement audit and tax reporting processEvaluate and oversee risk management, including insurance coverage and claimsMaintain strong relationships with funders and community partners; create all required reportingParticipate in funder meetings regarding tuition assistance, maintain reporting, act as liaison for families in the tuition assistance processAlong with Head of School, oversee facilities maintenance and operationsParticipate in regular school leadership, Board of Trustees, and business operations meetingsEstablish and cultivate community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all the school’s constituenciesActively participate in the full life of the school, including admission, development, and programmatic eventsEngage in professional development; aim to use up-to-date technologies to maintain high standards of performanceFamiliar with and compliant with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documentsMaintains safety and security as part of everyone’s responsibilityPerforms other duties as assignedKey Skills & CompetenciesBachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or similar, plus 10 years of experience in a financial leadership position; advanced degree and/or certifications may substitute; advanced degree preferredHigh degree of accuracy and attention to detailStrong organizational skillsReliable and committed to meeting deadlinesExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skillsSelf-starter with ability to work independently as well as on a teamAbility to communicate and work effectively with all school constituenciesFlexibility, maturity, and a sense of humorAbility to keep information confidentialCommitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivityProficient in Microsoft Windows environment, Office; experience with Excel, Word, DocuSign, QuickBooks, Blackbaud or other school data management softwareAbility to master common automated systems for record keeping and learn new technologyPhysical Duties & Work EnvironmentTypical office and school environment, most work indoorsAbility to sit/stand at a computer for extended periodsAbility to take phone calls and video calls throughout the day with internal and external clientsAbility to stand, reach, grasp, review physical documents and online information, and move about in a typical office/school environmentWhat We OfferJewish Day School of Seattle pays a gross annualized base salary range for this position between $140,000 and $170,000 based on qualifications, skills, experience, company values, and culture alignment.
