Advanced Energy is headquartered in Denver, Colorado.Position Summary: The Principal Electrical Engineer will be responsible for engineering work in applied research, design, development, testing, manufacturing, and documentation of products or systems. The Principal Engineer will identify and recommend design solutions, work with customers directly to identify and understand requirements and needs, use research techniques to analyze and validate design or theory concepts, and provide direction and leadership to engineers and engineering technicians related to program-specific work. You will also interact with senior level professionals both internal and external to AE.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the design and analysis of systems, products, and subsystems/circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule, and quality goals.Diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, reliability and test yields of products and recommend/implement corrective actions.Assume responsibility for the success of the product/system in the customers/' applications and recommend/implement corrective actions as needed.Follow key engineering procedures in the Product Development Process and ECO process.Work with manufacturing locations and supply chain groups to implement cost reductions, manufacturability improvements, and quality improvements for existing products.Work EnvironmentLocation: Eden Prairie, MNEnvironment: Works in a noisy, fast-paced power development lab and standard office environmentFlexibility working across time zones as part of a global team, as requiredUses electronic equipment and can work with high voltageDomestic and international travel of up to 10%Interfaces with internal and external customersOnsite technical support at customer locationsQualificationsEssentialProven professional skills as an experienced engineer with a full understanding of medical practices and company policies/procedures (10+ years of experience)Ability to solve complex technical problems independentlyAbility to manage multiple projects at one timeExcellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to provide technical mentoring to other team membersExperience with influencing and negotiating in complex situationsDesirablePower electronics designAC/DC and DC/DC switched mode power supply designPower Factor Correction designEMI and EMC design and resolutionMagnetic DesignRF Power DesignSimulation Package ExpertiseDesigning for Safety and Compliance (Medical background a plus)Understanding of firmware and codingDesigning for thermalsFamiliarity with IEC60601-2-2Experience12+ years of experienceExperience with Switch Mode Power Supplies / Power ElectronicsEducationB.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related pensationAs required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
