Job Title:SMT Group LeaderLocation:Stratford, CT Hourly Rate/Salary:[Insert range based on client’s budget & experience] Type:Temp-to-Hire POSITION OVERVIEW The SMT Group Leader is responsible for overseeing and supporting the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production team to ensure compliance with operating standards, product quality, safety, and on-time delivery. This role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and hands-on technical knowledge of SMT operations, tools, and processes. RESPONSIBILITIES Provide leadership, direction, and task assignments to team members, ensuring compliance with production standards. Monitor team performance, maintain records, and encourage collaboration while recognizing contributions. Ensure quality of finished products by checking workmanship and adherence to specifications. Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing protective equipment usage, ESD protocols, and safety procedures. Manage material availability by reviewing MOS, verifying inventory, and ensuring operating supplies (solder paste, stencil wipers, solvents) are stocked. Oversee SMT inventory restocking, labeling, and FIFO/Kanban systems. Ensure secondary tooling and materials are stored properly and resources are conserved. Act as liaison between management and team members; lead meetings and support healthy communication. Train team members on SMT equipment and processes, including: Turning on machines, computers, and ventilation systems. Using Smartsheet for scheduling, Qantel for inventory, and JUKI software for program loading. Proper loading/unloading of JUKI trolleys and feeder handling. Stencil printer setup, AOI equipment use, oven recipes, and stencil cleaning. Performing First Article verification, handling material deviations, and troubleshooting equipment. Participate in CIT meetings, support cross-training in manufacturing, and ensure shift-to-shift communication. Support other areas of manufacturing as needed. QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS Basic knowledge of electronic components and ESD principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and ability to use ERP/MRP systems (Qantel experience a plus). Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate teams. Attention to detail and ability to follow/interpret process sheets, work instructions, and technical documentation. Ability to operate SMT equipment, semiautomatic machines, and perform troubleshooting. Strong hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude. Adaptable, flexible, and capable of working cross-functionally in a team environment. EDUCATION High school diploma or GED required.
