Manager, Software Engineer in Test

What We Do Global Quality Assurance (GQA) promotes a shift-left approach and provides standardized process and tools to enhance the quality of applications for various WBD brands in News, Sports, and Entertainment verticals. GQA Engineers are the frontline owners of the quality processes, including the process of development, testing, and delivery. Role: Manager, Software Engineer in Test – GQA You will be responsible for ensuring software quality using efficient and reliable test automation. The ideal candidate has built multiple stable, scalable, and reliable automated suites that have been running successfully in production environments and provide extensive quality benefits. You should care about the user experience and have a passion for quality, learning, and collaboration. Responsibilities Scope: Leads a direct team of engineers facing some ambiguity. Defines the direct team's purpose and helps drive alignment and contribution to larger departmental goals. Creates clarity for the team in terms of deliverables and execution expectations. Impact: Owns the team’s output and quality. Facilitates goal achievement by effective selection and development of team members and works to enhance team productivity. Problem Definition & Complexity: Addresses diverse problems; may require leadership support. Provides detailed instructions for solving complex problems to the team. Execution: Primarily tactical. Facilitates ramping up of a team or building a roadmap under supervised guidance. Maintains high ownership, drives operational excellence, and ensures high-quality code is delivered on time. May contribute directly as an engineer when needed. Influence: Influences the technical vision for the team. Engages in discussions with peers, managers, and key stakeholders; contributes to strategic planning. Process Improvement: Optimizes team mechanisms to drive efficiency and productivity; seeks better ways of working. Mentorship: Mentors team members, asks thoughtful questions, and seeks feedback to grow as a manager. What to Bring 10+ years of relevant experience, knowledge of various test activities across release pipelines to promote artifacts from dev to prod, including unit testing, regression testing, certification testing, client testing, etc. Demonstrated technical leadership by guiding engineers and driving project solutions as the lead. Experience driving test design, implementation, and automation processes. Strong understanding of digital product development and testing for web, mobile, connected devices, and backend services. Understanding of test cases, test data, test runs, and test results management that provides feedback and visibility to qualify and quantify test coverage. Understanding of multiple test types including unit, functional, integration, end-to-end, security, performance, load, and UI tests. Ability to collaborate with development teams across multiple time zones and locations. Ability to collaborate with technology resources on projects with a solid understanding of current technologies and trends. Reviews automated test run results and verifies results. Triages test failures to determine if the issue is a bug or a test script/data issue. Must Have Experience in Tools/Frameworks/Language/Processes Framework Design and Development – BDD (Cucumber/JBehave) Coding languages: Java, JavaScript UI Automation - Selenium Mobile Automation - Appium or equivalent for Android/iOS CI/CD - Jenkins, Github Action, TeamCity Source Code Management - GitHub/SVN Test case management - Jira/TestRail/QMetry Nice to Have Ability to scout emerging industry trends such as AI testing and other best-in-class processes.
