Job Description

Luke’s Lobster is a renowned seafood brand and a leading national restaurant group with nearly 30 locations, with both fast-casual and full-service lobster roll restaurants. We also operate our own seafood processing facility in Saco, Maine, ensuring our 'Shacks' provide our guests the highest quality, best tasting seafood. Further, we produce branded seafood grocery products as part of our CPG business. We are seeking a new Chief Financial Officer for the next phase of major growth.OverviewWe’re looking for a strategic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to drive our company’s growth, responsible for overseeing all financial activities, including accounting, financial planning and analysis, treasury, tax, and investor relations. This ideal candidate has a deep understanding of both the restaurant and CPG industries, with the ability to navigate the unique financial challenges and opportunities of each. The person will be a member of the Executive Leadership team and report directly to the Founder and CEO, Luke Holden.If interested in this position, please upload a cover letter in the same file with your resume when applying.ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership and Strategy:Develop and execute the company's financial strategy, aligning with overall business objectives.Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to the CEO, executive team, and Board.Lead the development of financial plans, budgets, and forecasts.Evaluate and manage the company's capital structure, including debt and equity financing.Oversee financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.Analyze restaurant-level financial performance, including sales, food costs, labor costs, and operating expenses.Develop and implement strategies to improve restaurant profitability and efficiency.Evaluate the financial viability of new restaurant locations and expansion opportunities.Manage cash flow across all restaurant locations.Oversee point-of-sale (POS) systems and financial controls within restaurants in partnership with the COO.CPG Division Focus:Manage the financial aspects of the CPG business, including production costs, inventory management, and distribution expenses.Analyze product margins, pricing strategies, and profitability by product line.Evaluate the financial impact of new product development and product launches.Manage cash flow between suppliers, distributors, and retailers.Oversee inventory control, warehousing, and logistics costs in partnership with the SVP Sales.Financial Planning and Analysis:Lead the FP&A function, providing timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis.Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track business performance.Conduct variance analysis to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.Prepare and present financial reports to the board of directors, investors, and lenders.Accounting and Control:Oversee the accounting department, ensuring the integrity of financial records and internal controls.Implement and maintain financial policies and procedures.Manage the annual audit process and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.Evaluate and implement financial systems and technologies.Team Leadership and Development:Build and lead a high-performing finance team.Mentor and develop finance staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.Promote collaboration and communication between finance and other departments.Identify and mitigate financial risks, including market risk, credit risk, and operational risk.Ensure adequate insurance coverage and risk management strategies are in place.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance leadership roles, with significant experience in both the restaurant and CPG industries.Deep understanding of restaurant operations, including food and beverage cost management, labor management, and POS systems.Strong knowledge of CPG business, including production, supply chain management, and distribution.Proven track record of developing and executing successful financial strategies.Excellent financial planning and analysis skills, with the ability to provide strategic insights and recommendations.Strong accounting and control skills, with a thorough understanding of GAAP.Experience managing cash flow, debt financing, and equity financing.Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound business decisions.Proficiency in financial software and systems, including ERP systems.An outstanding work ethic, ambition, and drive to succeed.Experience with G Suite and other technology tools (e.g., R365).Comfort operating alongside both hourly teammates and in a company board meeting setting with institutional private equity investors.Must be open to periodic travel.A hands-on mindset ("no job is too small").Compensation and BenefitsSalary commensurate with experience – anticipate roughly $250,000 with annual performance bonusPaid vacation, sick days, and holidaysMedical, dental, and vision insurance on a national PPO network with company premium contributionsAccess to a Health Savings Account (HSA) and supplemental insurance policies (Accident Insurance and Hospital Indemnity Insurance)Low-asset fee 401k retirement plan after one monthMobile phone stipend programPaid parental leaveCompany Amex for approved expensesAbout Luke’s LobsterLuke’s Lobster was born out of the dream of Maine native and third-generation lobsterman Luke Holden to bring the quality lobster rolls of his youth to the big city.
