OverviewAssociate General Counsel (AGC) at the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES), Office of the Director (OOD). This position may offer remote work within Arizona based on the department/'s business needs and performance. DES is committed to strengthening individuals, families, and communities for a better quality of life.Job Location: Office of the Director, 1789 West Jefferson Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85007. Salary: $110,000 – $125,000 annually. Grade: 01. Closing Date: Open Until Filled.DES is looking for a passionate and dedicated attorney to join the team and help support vital social service programs.The State of Arizona supports a work culture with flexibility, autonomy, and trust, including participation in a Remote Work Program. All work should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is authorized in advance.ResponsibilitiesCoordinate legal services and prepare legal opinions, contracts, and reports.Support the Office of the Attorney General on litigated matters and ensure compliance with discovery requests.Conduct legal research, read and interpret statutes, case law, rules, and regulations.Provide advice and consultation on matters related to health and human services law, ensuring agency compliance with state and federal requirements.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesFederal and State laws, rules, and regulations, with emphasis on public benefits and healthcare law.Judicial and administrative forums, including related procedures and legal terminology.Legal research methods and techniques, and ability to draft legal pleadings, memoranda, and reports.Required QualificationsArizona State Bar license to practice law in good standing.Minimum of three (3) years of legal experience.Minimum of one (1) year of litigation experience related to state and federal laws, rules, regulations, policy, and sub-regulatory guidance in health and human services, care, benefits and employment practices.All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).Background and reference checks required; employment contingent on successful completion and reasonable accommodations as needed.Possession of a current, valid driver/'s license as required for any role that involves driving on State business; comply with driver training and record checks.BenefitsComprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, life, and short-term disability insurance.Participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) and long-term disability plans.Ten paid holidays per year; vacation time accrued bi-weekly for the first three years; paid parental leave (pilot program).Sick time accrual, deferred compensation, wellness programs, tuition reimbursement, and other benefits.Rideshare and public transit subsidies; flexible schedules to support work-life balance.Note: Remote work is a management option and not an employee entitlement.
