Job Title: Operating Room (OR) Charge Nurse - Multi-specialty Department: Perioperative Services Reports To: Nurse Manager Job Summary: The OR Charge Nurse is a key leadership role within the surgical team, responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the operating room. This position ensures the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care during surgical procedures. The Charge Nurse coordinates staffing, manages surgical case flow, facilitates communication among team members, and serves as a clinical resource to support nursing and surgical staff. With specialized knowledge in surgery, this nurse plays a critical role in maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, and fostering a collaborative, patient-centered atmosphere. Key Responsibilities: * Clinical Leadership & Supervision: * Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day workflow in the OR. * Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing and support staff. * Ensure adequate staffing and skill mix to meet patient care needs. * Provide real-time problem-solving and support during surgical procedures. * Patient Care Coordination: * Ensure safe and efficient perioperative care for patients undergoing procedures (e.g., Spine, GI, Ortho, Gynecology). * Monitor patients' conditions and anticipate needs throughout the perioperative process. * Advocate for patient safety and comfort while upholding best practices in surgical care. * Surgical Case Management: * Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR staff to manage and optimize daily surgical schedules. * Ensure proper instrumentation, equipment, and supplies are available and functioning prior to procedures. * Facilitate timely room turnover while maintaining high standards for infection prevention and control. * Quality and Compliance: * Uphold hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and perioperative best practices. * Monitor documentation for accuracy and completeness. * Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and staff education. * Communication & Collaboration: * Act as the primary point of contact between OR staff and leadership during assigned shifts. * Promote a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous learning. * Assist in resolving conflicts and escalating concerns appropriately. Qualifications: * Current RN license in good standing * BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications (required) * CNOR certification (preferred) * Minimum 3 years of OR experience * Prior leadership or charge nurse experience preferred * Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills * Ability to work effectively in high-pressure and fast-paced environments Benefits: * Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance * Health Savings Account with an employer contribution * Life Insurance * PTO * 401(k) retirement plan with a company match * And more!
