Burrtec is a family owned company that firmly believes the key element to our success is knowing how important each employee is in the organization.DriverThe Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles to collect and transport waste/recyclable material to the dumpsite. The driver plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient and timely collection and proper disposal of either solid, green waste and/or recycling materials while adhering to all relevant safety and environmental regulations.SALARY RANGE: $30.40 - $32.75/hourESSENTIAL DUTIES:Operate commercial vehicles, such as automated side loader, front-loaders, rear-loaders, roll-off trucks, or transfer trucks, in a safe and efficient mannerFollow designated routes and schedules for waste collection and transportCollect waste materials from residential, commercial, or industrial sites by completing all routes in a timely manner while maintaining efficiency and within the route standardsLoad waste into the truck using appropriate equipment, such as hydraulic lifts or compactorsOptimize the route to minimize unnecessary trips to the designated disposal or recycling facilities while ensuring secure and compliant handlingMinimize delays and disruptions to the schedule by not having any misses per week and promptly completing paperwork in morning and afternoon/eveningPerform a daily and thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and proper functioningUse personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times to ensure well-beingFollow safe driving practices, including defensive driving techniques and adherence to traffic laws including no use of cell phone or radios while drivingUse three Points of Contact and be aware of surroundings at all times to ensure grippers and forks are always positioned in safe mannerReport any mechanical issues or maintenance needs promptly for repairsRepresent Burrtec in a professional manner as a frontline representativeDeliver excellent customer service and wear the assigned uniformBe courteous, respectful, and professional when interacting with customers and coworkersAddress customer inquiries, requests, and complaints immediately and with empathy, striving to exceed customer expectations whenever possibleAdhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while operating commercial vehiclesRespect all company equipment by keeping the cab clean at all times and not obstruct or tamper with the on-board camera systemFollow all DOT Regulations daily (10-hour rule, 34 hour reset and 12 hour logs)Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards for waste transportation and disposalMaintain clear and open communication with supervisors, dispatchers, and fellow team members by using communication tools such as radios or on-board electronics to stay connected and informed throughout the workdayReview and approve timecard on a weekly basisFollow meal period policy by taking 30-minute meal within 5th hour and a second 30-minute meal period by 10th hour if working 12 hours or moreMaintain accurate records of waste collection activities, including logs, work orders, and route sheetsAssists with other routes and work mandatory OT as assignedPerform other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:Valid Class "A" or "B" California Commercial Driver's License with no air brake restrictions, requiredThese positions require the review of motor vehicle records (MVRs) prior to or during consideration of application as well as ongoing review through California's Electronic Pull Notice (EPN) ProgramClean driving record with no major violations or DUI within last 3 yearsOne (1) Year of work experience as a Commercial Driver, requiredExperience in the waste management or transportation industry, preferredKnowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to commercial drivingBe able to communicate in English and understand and complete route sheets, requiredCOMPETENCIES:Excellent driving skills and knowledge of traffic laws and regulationsStrong attention to safety and detailGood communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamPhysical fitness and stamina for maneuvering and loading and unloading waste materialsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:The job involves outdoor work and exposure to various weather conditions. Flexible working hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required to accommodate waste collection schedules. Commercial Drivers should be prepared for physically demanding work and be comfortable operating heavy machinery. This position is exposed to changing road conditions and closures. This job requires the ability to lift, push and pull up to 75 lbs., climb in and out of the truck cab frequently and perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
