Responsible for programming, set-up, operation and maintenance of additive manufacturing machines, including, but not limited to: 3D printing, rapid prototyping (RP), direct digital manufacturing (DDM), layered manufacturing, additive fabrications and related processing equipment from CAD file to finished part. This position will create components, products or other automotive parts based on the facilitys needs. Will include designing and programming 3D models, monitoring machine parameters, operation and maintenance of machinery, post-processing of parts, and testing and quality inspection of products. May support day-to-day development activities and assist with process development for additive manufacturing projects. Essential Job Duties Collaborate with departments to understand their specific needs; using additive manufacturing machinery to recreate an existing product or to create a new component/product.Utilize a 3D scanner to scan and analyze broken components/parts to collect object data that is then used to construct digital 3D models. Design detailed 3D drawings per specifications using computer-aided-design (CAD) software. Prepare the 3D model for the printing process by slicing the model.Program, set and utilize a 3D printer to create a 3D printed replica from a digital file.Run 3D printing tests to ensure the final product meets requirements. Monitor machine parameters and resolve processing problems.Coordinate the post-processing of parts.Test and inspect 3D-printed objects for quality. Write quality control inspection forms and product assembly instructions.May design, fabricate, and use test equipment, fixtures, jigs and gauges.Maintain work area and additive manufacturing equipment, troubleshooting any issues with equipment.Provide support to various departments within the facility.May modify existing designs or develop new product designs.Assume other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Lead the work of others who perform essentially the same work. May set priorities, schedule and review work, but have no responsibility to hire, terminate, review performance and/or make pay decisions. Minimum Requirements Education & Experience High School diploma or GED.1+ years of related experience.Proficient with 3D solid modeling mechanical CAD software. Knowledge of CAD Software (such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360).Proficient with CAD software, slice files for 3D printing, use of 3D printer. Preferred Requirements Some college coursework desired.Certified Additive Manufacturing Technician (CAM-T). Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Read and make product drawings.Frequent use of Outlook, Word, Excel, graphics, etc. Demonstrate use of computer operations (programming, relational databases, and operating systems) and software packages.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs.Regularly uses moderately complex oral and written skills. May train others in functional areas, interact with others and make presentations to department or middle management.Problems encountered are routine, somewhat repetitive, and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures.Results are defined; sets personal own goals and determines how to achieve results with few or no guidelines to follow; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.Handle multiple tasks or projects simultaneously with moderate complexity. Essential Physical Demands/Work Environment Office and Shop environment (fabrication equipment, indoors, heated).While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit for extended periods of time.The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Occasionally an employee may be asked to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.The employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, dust, fumes, various chemicals, and waste products.Personal Protective Equipment is required, including safety glasses, safety-toed footwear, and hearing protection to avoid placing self and others in an unsafe environment.
