The Heavy Civil Water/Wastewater Superintendent provides on-site leadership for the construction, installation, and mechanical work associated with water and wastewater treatment plants and infrastructure. This is a boots-on-the-ground position responsible for overseeing crews, subcontractors, and equipment while directly supporting the hands-on work required to deliver safe, high-quality projects on schedule and within budget. The ideal candidate has extensive heavy civil experience, a strong mechanical background, and the ability to lead field teams by example. Key Responsibilities Field Operations Supervise and participate in daily construction activities on water/wastewater treatment projects. Coordinate self-performing crews, subcontractors, materials, and equipment to meet project goals. Review drawings and specifications to plan and sequence work efficiently. Anticipate challenges in the field and resolve issues in real time to keep projects moving forward. Mechanical & Equipment Oversee and support the installation and alignment of pumps, piping systems, valves, motors, and process equipment. Ensure all equipment is safely operated, maintained, and available for scheduled work. Manage site inventory of tools, parts, and materials. Quality & Safety Inspect work regularly to confirm compliance with design specifications, codes, and company standards. Identify and correct deficiencies promptly. Promote and enforce OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and company safety policies. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or degree in construction management, mechanical systems, or related field preferred. Minimum 10 years of heavy civil construction experience , with at least 5 years in water/wastewater projects . Hands-on experience with pumps, piping, rotating equipment, and other treatment plant systems. Proven ability to supervise self-performing crews and subcontractors on complex projects. Skilled at reading blueprints, P&IDs, and technical specifications. Proficiency with project management and scheduling software; field technology experience a plus. Valid California Driver’s License; OSHA 30 certification preferred. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary based on experience and performance.
