POSITION TITLE: Outreach and Prevention Specialist LOCATION: Manchester, KY(Primary Hub, Jefferson County, with some coverage in Manchester, KY) STATUS: Full Time, Hourly, Non- Exempt PROGRAM: VOA Health REPORTS TO: Program Manager of VOA Health INTRODUCTION: Volunteers of America Mid-States (VOA) is a non-profit organization spanning four states that creates positive change in the lives of individuals and communities through a ministry of service. The OPS will establish community partnerships supporting outreach objectives in (Henderson and Daviess) counties. They will facilitate HIV and sexual health education classes, community outreach events and activities, and collaborate with the outreach team and community partners to strengthen community impact. They will encourage individuals to participate in testing and education events; they will support safer sex supply distribution and social networking strategies. OPS will oversee and recruit participants from all populations. They will volunteer to support program objectives. OPS will work weekdays with some flexible evening and weekend hours depending on the time of year and need. The OPS must be able to exercise tact and discretion to sustain confidential relationships with clients. You must maintain confidentiality while adhering to agency policies and grant stipulations. WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE: Training and experience in the HIV or sexual health field preferred. Experience working with youth preferred. General knowledge of HIV and HIV/STD prevention. Working knowledge of target population, field related community partners, and the Jefferson County area. Able to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams while maintaining organizational and critical thinking skills. In addition, the OPS must have good verbal and written communication skills. Also, public speaking or education facilitation experience is preferred. Candidate should be comfortable engaging clients in discussion about HIV/STD risks RESPONSIBILITIES: Works in the community to identify at risk population for HIV and key partner agencies. Participate in community program/event development and in community events that may benefit from HIV/sexual health prevention services. Collaborates with Outreach Specialists to support Outreach and Prevention community activities. Conduct HIV & Hep C testing including pre and post-test counseling. Provide linkage to care services for newly diagnosed individuals. Facilitate sexual health and HIV 101 classes. Distribute safer sex supplies to community partner establishments within targeted areas. Requires ability to communicate with program's target populations, staff grantors, community social services, agencies, and the public at large. Record all data pertaining to outreach and testing per protocol within established timelines. Develop relationships with key partners in community to provide and expand services. Attend required training and continuing education sessions. Clear communication with Program Manager regarding all intended activities or support needed. Apply agency, personnel/program policies and procedures to fulfill stipulations of the grant objectives. Other duties as assigned.
