Growing together.As a Senior Associate General Counsel - Mgr, you would be expected to operate in a strategic and pro-active manner to assist Business leaders of Optum State Government Solutions with management of legal and regulatory risks and assisting the business in the achievement of its business goals. Role reports directly to Deputy General Counsel of Optum Government and is responsible for performing individual contributor work and supervising subordinate counsel and a paralegal on the Optum State Government Legal and Contracts team.You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary ResponsibilitiesProvides transactional legal support for Optum's State Government's health care information technology businessAs the leader of the Optum State Government legal and contracts team, act as the designated provider of legal advice to the Optum State Government Solutions business leadership on legal/contractual issues affecting the entire business as well as the legal representative advising on overall business strategy issuesSupports Deputy General Counsel of Optum Government with management of strategic projectsAs the leader of the Optum State Government legal and contracts team, provide guidance and mentorship and manage the workload assigned to other legal and contracts team members consistent with supporting their career development and support of the businessWill act as the legal lead for at least one of the Optum State Government solution offerings across multiple states, while serving as a backup to other attorneys, as part of a dedicated state government legal and contracting teamProvides cradle to grave legal and contractual support of competitive as well as sole source agreements with customers, including reviewing Requests for Proposals, drafting questions and RFP responses, advising proposal writers on confidentiality markings, assisting in the completion of forms and certifications, drafting and negotiating teaming and other vendor or partner agreements, advising senior leadership on risks and negotiating customer and supplier agreements, Statements of Work, Change Orders and AmendmentsProtect the organization's rights in contract negotiations, settlements and litigationAcquire deep knowledge of the industry and the specific business practices of the Optum State Government business within UnitedHealth Group so as to best advise senior business leadersPeriodically interacts with UHG Corporate Attorneys and outside counsel on legal issues requiring specialized expertise, including bid protests, litigation, employment and other mattersWork with business clients to resolve legal and contractual issues with company-wide significanceYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required QualificationsJuris Doctorate degree with Bar admission in at least one state10+ years of legal experience7+ years of Government contracting experience, preferably with state government procurements (or federal), including RFP review, proposal preparation, drafting and negotiating resulting prime contracts and subcontracts3+ years of People management experienceHealth care legal experience and/or information technology legal experienceExperience providing legal advice in a government contracting environmentExperience providing advice to senior business leadersExperience providing legal advice in a government contracting environmentProven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environmentAbility to evaluate and determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit needsProven excellent presentation skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience with a law firm or state government entity, with experience also working as in house counselExperience with bid protestsKnowledge of legal principles underlying organizational conflicts of interestAbility to evaluate acquisition opportunities and lead integration of new lines of business post-acquisitionDemonstrated capability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company contacts, with full capability to lead and contribute to team effortWell-developed written and verbal communications skillsDemonstrated understanding of business problems related to assigned legal projectsAll employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $156,400 to $268,000 annually based on full-time employment.
