Job Summary:The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, including those in ready-mix concrete trucks and related equipment. The role focuses on ensuring the reliable operation of the fleet by conducting preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and performing major and minor repairs on concrete delivery trucks, dump trucks, conveyors, semi tractors and trailers, and other associated fleet equipment. This position requires a strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and the unique requirements of concrete mixer trucks.This is a Teamsters Local 346 Union position.Key Responsibilities:Maintenance and RepairsPerform regular inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on concrete mixer trucks, including engine systems, transmission, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems.Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in diesel-powered concrete trucks and related equipment (e.g., mixers, pumps, conveyors).Conduct repairs on diesel engines, drive trains, suspension, fuel systems, brake systems, cooling systems, and exhaust systems.Replace or repair defective parts and components, such as pumps, motors, gears, and bearings, ensuring all repairs are made according to manufacturer specifications.Concrete Truck-Specific Maintenance:Maintain and repair the concrete mixer drum, ensuring proper operation and cleaning to avoid concrete build-up that can affect performance.Inspect, maintain, and repair hydraulic systems responsible for drum rotation, unloading, and conveyor operation.Ensure proper functioning of the trucks hydraulic pumps, motors, and associated components, and perform hydraulic oil changes and system flushes as needed.Diagnosing and Troubleshooting:Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical problems and resolve issues efficiently.Perform troubleshooting of electrical systems, including batteries, alternators, lights, and sensors, to ensure full operational functionality.Address and resolve mechanical breakdowns both in the shop and, when necessary, at job sites or in the field.Preventive Maintenance:Perform routine service checks and oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks to ensure optimal truck performance and longevity.Monitor and maintain inventory of commonly used parts and materials, ensuring the availability of necessary items for repairs and maintenance.Ensure all safety systems, including tires, brake systems, and other key components, are regularly inspected and maintained to comply with safety regulations.Documentation and Compliance:Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts usage for each vehicle, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.Prepare and submit maintenance reports to the fleet manager, identifying any potential issues or areas of concern.Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety policies, industry standards, and environmental regulations.Customer and Team Interaction:Communicate effectively with drivers and management staff to gather information about mechanical issues and repair priorities.Assist drivers with minor troubleshooting or technical advice while they are on the road, when possible.Collaborate with the operations team to ensure that fleet downtime is minimized, and vehicles are back in operation as quickly as possible.Qualifications:Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent; formal training in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment repair is preferred.Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a diesel mechanic, with a focus on concrete trucks, mixers, or heavy-duty trucks.Strongknowledge of diesel enginesystems, hydraulics, brake systems, and electronics, with specific experience in ready-mix concrete trucks.Skills and Competencies:Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools for repairs and maintenance.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues in a timely manner.Ability to work independently or as part of a team, managing time and workload efficiently.Familiarity with the operation of concrete mixers, hydraulic systems, and other heavy-duty vehicles/equipment.Strong communication skills to interact effectively with plant staff, drivers, and management.Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools, and to work in physically demanding conditions.Physical Requirements:Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and work in tight, confined spaces (such as under trucks or within engine compartments).Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods while working on vehicles and equipment.Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including outdoor or shop environments that may be hot, cold, or noisy.Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.Job Types: Full-time, Part-time Pay: $29.28 - $36.60 per hour Expected hours: 40 55 per week Benefits:401(k)Health insuranceRetirement plan People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply Ability to Commute:Hermantown, MN 55811 (Required) Ability to Relocate:Hermantown, MN 55811: Relocate before starting work (Required) Work Location: In personby Jobble
