What you’ll do The Sommelier position will be responsible for the following: At the direction of management, assess wine deliveries at the start of the shift. Know how to read invoices, price new wines with the correct mark up and stock them correctly on the shelves. Stocking should never take place during the busiest times unless you need the product.   Be aware of all new tables and introduce yourself and the wine program.  Take or assist with every wine order if your location has only Beer and Wine.  All bottles of wine ordered in the restaurant should be checked for quality. Make sure all wine is rung in correctly in Toast. Support and Assist any retail customers looking for Wine Retail.  Assist in any Doordash beverage sales.  Assist customers via email or phone and create a friendly and unpretentious atmosphere for customers.  Guide guests with exceptional customer service, cultivate repeat customers.  Make sure that all bottles are always fronted and flush.  Keep by-the-glass cubbies and beverage fridge stocked with BTG wines at all times. Stocking should also occur at the end of every shift to set up the next day’s service. Keep your work areas clean and dusted.  Know the wine list very well (i.e familiarity with all producers on the list and in inventory), pass wine study quizzes and have knowledge of regions and winemaking, manage floor and shop flow solo, confidently open still and sparkling wine bottles table side, present. Serve wine following the proper etiquette/protocol, know how to decant wines when needed/requested and how to use the Ah-So for older bottles.  Complete nightly side work and review with the closing manager before clocking out.  Maintain an up to date Servsafe certification, California Sexual Harassment and Abusive Conduct Prevention certificate and TIPS certification.  Other duties as assigned.
