Lab Technician Job Description The Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring customer, team member, and vendor satisfaction by performing tests on production and finished product samples. This role ensures compliance with FDA, NYS regulations, and internal standards. The technician supports the production of dairy-related products. Responsibilities + Achieve goals in production, safety, quality, performance, and cost. + Notify others of mechanical malfunctions and identify areas for operator assistance in resolving concerns. + Comply with GMPs, SOPs, corporate and plant policies, rules, and regulations. + Provide support to all areas in the production facility as assigned and train on key production areas such as fillers, forklifts, and production lines. + Gain competence on line circuits and learn proper facility hookups. + Cover breaks, lunches, and other staffing needs as assigned. + Comply with legal requirements concerning dairy processing and safety on assigned shifts. + Report safety concerns promptly and take corrective actions to ensure a safe environment. + Report food safety problems and support SQF by maintaining food safety and quality. + Ensure work areas are sanitary and adhere to sanitation practices. + Communicate effectively between shifts and departments. + Conduct and evaluate product testing results to determine compliance with standards. + Release compliant product from hold on the computerized inventory management system. + Inspect and verify the sanitary condition of processing lines, fillers, tanks, and overall areas, including ATP swabbing and visual inspections. + Validate vitamin additions and batching sheets for processing departments. + Maintain cleanliness of work areas and equipment. + Communicate openly with the Quality Control Team and plant personnel. + Conduct microbiological analyses, chemical analyses, and sensory testing as required. + Perform bacteria/shelf life testing of fresh and stressed samples. + Maintain laboratory logbook and Hold/Disposition Log for the shift. + Log and send out COAs (Certificate of Analysis) upon testing completion. + Complete Titratable Acidity (TA) tests using all methods. + Conduct Allergen testing as required. + Perform Sterile Sampling of Tanks and report results in a timely manner. + Complete and report product testing using tally and Product Testing Record (microbiological report). + Perform cryoscope testing on milk products. + Verify product labeling correctness. + Conduct EQA testing. + Complete shelf life sensory testing and attend training annually. + Perform butterfat and solids testing using appropriate equipment. + Conduct product sterility testing on samples received in the laboratory. + Update log and results for Product Hold and Disposition Log and follow up as needed. + Utilize LIMS system and verify analytical, sensory, and microbiological testing. Essential Skills + Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as adding, counting, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and understanding weights and measures. + Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English. + Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals, and individual role in achieving them. + Ability to operate facility equipment as required. + Completion of all company training requirements. + Ability to interpret company documents, literature, and UPC/code information. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Minimum of GED or High School Diploma required. + Associates degree in dairy/food sciences or equivalent is highly preferred. + 1-2 years of experience in a similar food industry lab setting is highly preferred. Work Environment The position requires availability for morning, afternoon, and overnight shifts. The work environment adheres to GMP dress code standards and involves maintaining a safe and sanitary workspace. The shift hours are from 10 PM to 8:30 AM. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cortland, New York. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.50 - $24.50/hr.
