Department: Research & Development Reports to: Caylin (SVP Operations/Quality), Jacob (VP Business Development) ______________________________________ About Western Botanicals Western Botanicals is a fast-growing dietary supplement and sports nutrition manufacturer located in Spanish Fork, UT. As a result of our continued growth, we are seeking a Director of R&D to lead and expand our Research & Development function. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, outgoing, and thrives in a collaborative environment. This role requires a balance of technical expertise and customer-facing interaction, as well as the ability to develop and mentor an R&D team in a rapidly growing company. ______________________________________ Position Overview Lead & direct the R&D department’s projects. Lead & direct the collection of regulatory documents and creation of supplement facts panels. Directly manage the R&D team, offering mentorship, accountability, development opportunities. Serve as a collaborative partner with other departments, ensuring compliance, timeliness, and innovation in all R&D outputs. Maintain strong vendor and partner relationships, particularly with flavor houses, to optimize costs and expand our internal product library. Play a critical role in supporting new business by providing formulation expertise, flavor development, and direct interaction with customers when needed. ______________________________________ Essential Job Functions Manage the R&D team, providing leadership, guidance, and performance development. Ensure all raw material documentation is accurate, complete, and uploaded correctly. Create and manage SFPs (Specification Finished Product) for all new projects. Partner with Regulatory on label reviews and respond to compliance questions. Assist with claim verification for Non-GMO, Gluten-Free, Vegan, and other product certifications. Oversee and maintain timely turnaround of open R&D tickets. Support the Business Development team on customer calls requiring formulation or technical expertise. Manage relationships with 3–5 key flavor houses, working to drive costs down and expand internal flavor/product testing libraries. Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure smooth project execution. ______________________________________ Qualifications 3–5 years of experience in the nutraceutical industry, with preferred background in R&D and regulatory. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop high-performing teams. Outgoing personality with the ability to engage in customer-facing interactions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong time management and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Culturally aligned, adaptable, and motivated to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-driven environment.
