Job DescriptionThe Department of Public Health’s San Francisco Health Network Ambulatory Care (SFHN AC) division is recruiting a Permanent Exempt part-time podiatrist and an as-needed Temporary Exempt podiatrist.One Permanent Exempt part-time podiatristOne as-needed Temporary Exempt podiatristThese podiatrists work in our community-based ambulatory care health centers/programs in the classification of 2230-Physician Specialist.Worksites IncludeCastro Mission Health Center, Curry Senior Center, Maxine Hall Health Center, Potrero Hill Health Center, Silver Avenue Family Health Center, Southeast Family Health Center, Tom Waddell Urban Health Center, Maria X Martinez Health Resource Center/Whole Person Integrative Care sites, and Jail Health Services sitesDuties IncludeUnder the general administrative direction of the lead podiatrist, the 2230 Physician Specialist performs the following essential job functions at health centers/programs:Evaluation and non-invasive treatment of foot and ankle pathology predominantly those requiring palliative carePerforms “in-office” procedures including biopsies, nail avulsions, matrixectomies, foot and ankle injections, tenotomies, and capsulotomiesEvaluation and treatment of foot, ankle and leg ulcers and infections within the podiatric scope. (this position excludes bone procedures)Makes general referrals and consultations to other departments where appropriate including “surgical” podiatry at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG)Provides telephone advice to patientsProvides patients with health education, counseling, and self-management supportProvides clinical case management for patients with complex care needs as indicatedMaintains accurate, timely and complete electronic medical recordsParticipates in staff meetings, project meetings, and conferences when indicatedParticipates in quality improvement initiativesWorks effectively as part of a multidisciplinary teamProvides consultative support to other members of the care teamCollaborates with identified project staff on special projectsPerforms other related duties as assigned/requiredQualifications:Applicants must meet these minimum qualification requirements by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.Possession of a valid license issued by Podiatric Medical Board of California*ANDSuccessful completion** of a residency program accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, i.e., Board EligibleANDPossession of valid Drug Enforcement Agency registration*** with the United States Department of Justice*Applicants possessing a valid license to practice medicine issued from another state within the United States of America may apply, but if selected, the candidate will NOT be appointed/hired until they obtain a valid license to practice podiatric medicine issued by the California Board of Podiatric Medicine.**Applicants enrolled in an accredited residency program may apply, but if selected, the candidate will NOT be appointed/hired until they demonstrate successful completion of a residency program accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education.***For some positions, possession of valid Drug Enforcement Agency registration with the United States Department of Justice is a special condition that is required in addition to the standard minimum qualifications associated with this job classification.Conditions of EmploymentAll qualified candidates who have been selected for appointment to positions in all specialty areas must be an eligible billable provider and must meet the following criteria within two (2) weeks prior to the start work date to avoid delay of the appointment to the position and/or cancellation of an employment offer:Be eligible to participate in Medicare, Medicaid and/or other federal health care programs;Possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI);Submit a completed credentialing application and/or required documentation for credentialing; ANDPossess a valid third-party billable provider certification (such as Medicare, Medi-Cal and/or private insurance) OR have submitted a completed billable provider application, along with the required documentation, in order to obtain the appropriate billable provider status.Desirable QualificationsLived and/or work experience with Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (BIPOC) populationsAmbulatory care experience in an urban environment serving diverse, low-income populations experiencing complex medical and psychosocial challengesUnderstanding of how systemic racism, white supremacy, and other forms of bias affect patient engagement, retention, and health outcomesSensitivity to and experience working with LGBTQ+ individualsExperience working in multi-disciplinary team-based care and one or more of the following: trauma-informed care, health care for the homeless, harm reduction, or chronic care management modelsFluency in one or more of the following languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, or SpanishAbility to work with staff from diverse social and economic backgrounds with respect, understanding, and teamwork -- including and especially staff from non-clinical disciplinesHigh attention to detail and ability to meet deadlinesAbility to manage multiple, complex tasks concurrentlyAbility to work in a fast-paced, demanding environmentExcellent interpersonal communication and customer service skillsCommitment to reducing health disparities and actively contributing to our goal to become an anti-racist organizationThe City and County of San Francisco encourages women, minorities and persons with disabilities to apply.
